Review: Destiny by Darxiide, feat. Dru Filthy

Darxiide is letting listeners download a song featured on their upcoming album, NWO.  The explicit track, Destiny, which features Andrew "Dru Filthy" Faamuli, combines old school with new school using The Dramatics' "In the Rain" as both an example and a sample throughout.

The Dramatics, a late 1960's R&B group whose musical career endured through the mid-90s, had one of their greatest hits in "In the Rain".  The track, released on Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get in 1972, charted at number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at number 1 on the US Billboard Hot Soul Singles.

The song's popularity and the lyrics' relationship to the Puget Sound climate make it an excellent selection for a song extolling Tacoma, referred to as the "City of Destiny".

Darxiide introduces the song with "In the Rain" and then raps over a beat influenced chorus of the Dramatics' hit until the end when it concludes the same introduction. The artists refer to "Destiny" as a female, dichotomous as both beautiful and dangerous, a giver and a taker.  One message that resonates is that Tacoma, the 253, is one of the best places to find and grow hip hop music.
