Florida Gulf oil spill: Plans to evacuate some in Tampa Bay is suggested possibility

UPDATED: July 1, 2010

** SEE NOTICE AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

Oilprice.com is reporting that Wayne Madsen has been informed by sources in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection that,"Emergency preparations in dealing with the expanding oil menace are now being made for cities and towns from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Houston, New Orleans, Gulfport, Mobile, Pensacola, Tampa-St.Petersburg-Clearwater, Sarasota-Bradenton, Naples, and Key West. ...

There are plans to evacuate people with respiratory problems, especially those among the retired senior population along the west coast of Florida, before officials begin burning surface oil near the coastline," according to Oil Price.com

This report has not been confirmed by independent government agencies or BP.

Since the April 20th explosion which resulted in the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig, there have been more than a million gallons of the chemical disbursant Corexit, poured into the Gulf of Mexico in efforts to break up the spill. Corexit has come under scrutiny because it is four times more toxic than the oil being spilled.

Estimates of the rate of BP's Deepwater Horizon oil spill have varied. Independent scientists now suggest that the true spill rate, before the riser pipe was cut off in June, was between 20,000 and 50,000 barrels a day.

BP currently has 246 controlled burnes in progress according to MSNBC. Plans to do additional controlled burns around the well site were announced by Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen at a briefing in early June.

** IMPORTANT NOTICE:

An earlier version of this article stated that plans to evacuate the Tampa Bay area were expected to be announced. The article has since been clarified to explain that the alleged plans were not independently confirmed and referred only to some people with respiratory problems along the coast in the event of controlled burns.

The information in the article came from an OilPrice.com report stating that “there are plans to evacuate people with respiratory problems, especially those among the retired senior population along the west coast of Florida, before officials begin burning surface oil near the coastline.”

Thank you so much for your stories at this time. It's good to have Examiners out there watching what is going on. I did not realize the unbelievable danger this leakage poses to the entire planet! Let alone all coastal regions in the Gulf and beyond. Mike Adams of Natural News had a shocking article "Is Gulf oil rig disaster far worse than we're being told?" and now to see the statistics you quoted here... oh dear. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

BP will clean up effects of this incident, and there will be very little impact to the beach. There is lots of good news, the leak is slowing, winds are keeping it offshore, fish and birds are getting out of the oil slicks way, etc. Soon a second site will be redrilled and things will be back to normal, and we can progress with all the new offshore drilling opprotunities that await us.

    Hey Maryann,
I'm so glad you're covering this horrendous story. I would be too if I hadn't started a job around the time of the spill that has kept me occupied since. Your coverage has reminded me of the severity of this crisis, though, so I hope to return soon to the site.
It's sad that we have sacrificed our environment for money. The one positive outcome, if any aspect of this continuous gusher can be considered positive, might be the wake-up call the disaster provides to the people and politicians of the Gulf Coast. One thing I find curious is that no one in the mainstream media mentions Haliburton owned the Deepwater Horizon, probably because they fear the ramifications of such reporting on the military-industrial-media hype complex. Haliburton's role in the incident, merely because it has been silenced, might be an interesting direction to pursue. However, keep raising hell for BP! Your work is invaluable, and these greedy sociopaths deserves to be outed for their true colors.

Evacuation for a controlled burn is standard procedure when it's done by the US forestry service. Why would it be any different if it's done on the water? Just because the oil isn't sitting in Tampa Bay doesn't mean the wind wouldn't take the smoke there. This is not as far fetched as some of you think.

if they can't cap this, and it spews for decades, it's not just the gulf that's toast, it's all the oceans on the planet, as well as the sea life. when this goes around florida it will be caught up in the gulf stream, and be circulated up and down both sides of the atlantic, and then proceed to the pacific. there's a current that runs around the entire planet. this is gravely serious to our survival. offshore drilling must be banned forever, because accidents happen, and our oceans are too precious to risk. our lives depend on them. and when the epa tells bp to use safer dispersants and bp tells the epa no, who's in charge...the government or the corporations? wake up folks.

Actually, from what I have read, there ARE plans in place to evacuate the entire coastal region from Texas to the Florida Keys, from the water to 500 MILES INLAND, beginning June 16th. As of mid-may, more National Guard troops have been activated since WWII. Locals are already being sickened by toxic fumes(benzene, which occurs naturally from crude, and the poisonous dispersant COREXIT, used by BP to sink the oil out of sight).
This is supposedly a two part evacuation. Phase two will involve the entire eastern seaboard from Florida(ALL OF FLORIDA) to Cape Cod, MA.,FROM THE COAST TO 500 mi. west.
Note that during this MANDATORY EVACUATION, all possessions including vehicles, must be abandoned, evacuees likely bussed/railed to govt. owned detention facilities for "processing".

    SUMMARY OF WHAT IS HAPPENING

The estimated super high pressure release of oil from under the earth's crust is between 80,000 to 100,000 barrels per day.

The flow of oil and toxic gases is bringing up with it... rocks and sand which causes the flow to create a sandblasting effect on the remaining well head device currently somewhat restricting the flow, as well as the drilled hole itself.

As the well head becomes worn it enlarges the passageway allowing an ever-increasing flow. Even if some device could be placed onto the existing wellhead, it would not be able to shut off the flow, because what remains of the existing wellhead would not be able to contain the pressure.

The well head piping is originally about 2 inches thick. It is now likely to be less than 1 inch thick, and thinning by each passing moment. The oil has now reached the Gulf Stream and is entering the Oceanic current which is at least four times stronger than the current in the Gulf, which will carr

I predict that in addition to evacuating the gulf coast region (30 million people, maybe, but now the oil "spill" is so immense they cannot blackout news media forever, time to get everyone out so we cannot see them NOT cleaning up the mess), there will be a BAN on all offshore drilling. Hope you all have woodstoves because oil prices, then natural gas prices, will SKYROCKET. Oil cartels will gouge us for all they can. As govt. has wanted to do all along, they'll finally take over and "nationalize" oil. Already bankrupt US will end, or drastically cut- entitlement programs (welfare, ss,disability, housing, etc.)Food prices will skyrocket-google "food crisis for dummies" by e.decarbonnel. Don't be suprised to see $10 loaf of bread by the end of the year. NOW is the time to stock up on long-term storable foods-NOT CANNED, but dried: rice, beans, fruits, and water or water purification. All the money in the bank will not help you, as the dollar is being intentionally devalued. BUY FOOD!

The combination of corexit (dispersant) & crude makes for one deadly marine "plume" That'll kill off most of the gulf permanantly. Benzene gas kills you by entering thru your skin.
A dust mask, even charcoal filtered will not help. There is going to be a lot of terminally sick people soon. Nesting birds are leaving the gulf shores in droves & flying North to Kentucky & Tenessee & beyond by the droves! Seagulls are reported inland up to 10 miles crying. Shhh..the government does not want you to know this.

Uhh... Guys.. Saddam Hussein burnt this much oil in 1991, and in the late winter and early spring, there is a solid prevailing west wind in that area which sent the soot and fumes across the Persian Gulf into Southern Iran. An international study of the area showed few significant problems with airborne exposure in Iran. Runoff into the Gulf, however, created deposits which are still toxic to wildlife to this day. And as for the Wayne Madsen report, that guy believes the US government was behind the USS Cole attacks when under Clinton and September 11 attacks when under Bush, that Obama was born in Kenya, and that wine flu is manmade. He's also a regular on Russian state English-language media (rt.com) when they need somebody to say weird things about the US.
