Thursday, Toyota announced a safety recall for approximately 1.3 million Corollas that were sold in the US and Canada; the recall includes 2005-2008 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles. The recall states that engine control modules may have been improperly manufactured, and would be replaced free of charge.
Three accidents have been reported in the US that are allegedly related to the problem, one resulted in a minor injury. No accidents or injuries were reported in Canada. 200,300 of vehicles in Canada were recalled, and the rest in the US.
Toyota plans to begin notifying owners in mid-September with recall instructions.

Toyota created an opportunity for other dealerships as their sales dropped this year from the numerous recalls. "Every dog has his day," said Jerry Seiner who owns several General Motors dealerships in Salt Lake City. "Maybe they'll take a second look at us instead of Toyota...when Toyota stumbles it's our opportunity."
