The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina plans to burn Bibles and books by Christian authors on Halloween. Pastor Marc Grizzard said that the King James Bible version is the only one his church follows.
Grizzard said that all other versions, such as the Living Bible, are "satanic" and "perversions" of God's word. Grizzard and 14 members of the Church will burn music and books by Billy Graham and Rick Warren and other Christian authors. Grizzard blames these other authors because they have occasionally used Bibles other than the King James Version, and he considers that version to be infallible.
According to the Amazing Grace Baptist Church website, members will also burn “Satan’s music such as country, rap, rock, pop, heavy metal, western, soft and easy, southern gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, soul (and) oldies.”
The Cedar City Library in Utah had a mock book burning in 2007 and used misprinted and damaged books to show patrons exactly what a book burning is like. The reaction of the public was emotional and it showed people that no one had the right to tell them what they could and couldn't read.

I'll bet that this pastor doesn'r know that the "Old King James" bible was, at the time, a modern english translation of an even older english translations. That was called the Wycliff Bible.
I'll bet he thinks that Jesus spoke 1611 era English.
Wow, seriously the King James only movement is heretical. If you want to exalt a specific Bible wouldn't the original Greek NT and Hebrew OT be the best choice!? And furthermore, the notion that one can only be saved through the KJV is blatant heresy and disregards many clear doctrines of Scripture. One of which states that we are saved through grace alone by faith alone... no mention of the King James there.
It's pastors like this that truly make me angry, he should be focusing on soul winning not book burning. Does he not know that the pastor/teacher is held to a higher standard? It is his job to cleanse these heretical teachings from his church, not embrace them.
This just completely disgusts me!
I pray for you to put your efforts into more concrete work for the Lord. The bibles that we now read are all just VERSIONS of the inspired text from GOD to the apostles. Just teach as your title says Amazing Grace.

I would hope that other churches in the area will take the opportunity to setup nearby the "burning" and do just the opposite and show the real spirit of Jesus Christ in whatever way the Holy Spirit leads them. Surely our Father in Heaven will let this be an opportunity for true believers to stand out against such idiocy that comes from the mind of men.

Will he also burn the Bible in other languages? Hebrew and Greek included? Or will Greek and Hebrew translations based on the 1611 KJV be exempted because of their impeccable heritage? :-)

It just amazes me how religion has managed to survive far long after most sciences can explain what previously could only be explained through religion. I think we should just burn all the Bibles and realize we are here because we choose to be, not because of some God. Silly humans!
tennprowler - you have faith, if you realize it or not. You have faith in the theories of evolution, the big bang, whatever you think brought this world into existence. Why is your faith in theory logical and a Christians faith in God illogical? With every breakthrough science has it poses more questions.
I have been less and less impressed with the infighting coming from Christianity recently. We are all part of Christianity, Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, all the different Christian denominations are all still Christian. Then something like this happens and one group says the other groups are all wrong. Lets focus on spreading the CHRISTIAN church. Not only our own section of that church.
That being said this church or at least this pastor has lost their way. Delusions of infallibility, let us get one thing straight, there is not a single person on this world who is perfect. We all sin, it’s part of our human condition.

i am a follower of Jesus and i do not agree with this Pastor. I am outraged that his says the other verions are Satanic. I read the NLT and all that is different is the wording. Nothing is taken in or out.
God loves all of His creation. Remember the name of your church, Amazing Grace. God is greater than any translation of the Bible. I worship God, not the Bible. The word of God that is written down is only one tool used by God. He can use anything or anyone He chooses to do His work. We all need to live out the fruits of the spirit to reach the world for Christ. Galatians 5:22-23, "The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,faithfulness,gentleness and self-control. Against such there is no law.

I read all of the above comments: agree with some, don't agree with others. Nevertheless, I have decided that I am just going to PRAY for this pastor and his church - pray for wisdom, understanding, discernment, guidance, grace, and love.
Question guys; If Jesus were preaching today, would he use an old, crusty translation of the bible to get his message across? The last time i read the gospels Jesus preached in stories and pictures, so that everyman could understand the kingdom of God. The King James is solid to read, nobody talks like that; it just makes Christianity sound old and irrelevent. The KJV is not even that faithful to the greek (the original language of the new testement). Get Bent.
The original translation of the Bible is from the Hebrew and Aramaic. Are you considering the KJV of the Bible to be more authentic than the original??

What kind of a minister would burn the bible? I don't care if it is the Living Bible or any other type-it is God's word. Seems to me, that he is trying to be like Hitler. Hitler burned alot of books during the world. I think this minister is crazy. Billy Graham is a wonderful man and truly inspirational. Shame on you for daring to mock God.
What is really silly is that there are loads of things they could burn that WOULD make a statement. This is just a very silly move because all it will do is cause division. The scary thing is as a young Christian I might have got caught up in this. They would be better off doing what churches did when I became a Christian..there was some kind of movement to give every family a copy of the Living Bible or something similar. The Bibles were so attractive you wanted to read them...have they anyway forgotten that the early church functioned without a New Testament because it was actually being lived......
It's sad that these people chose to act in hatred towards others instead of in love like Jesus taught us. We can't let their actions allow us to act likewise towards them. God teaches us to love - even those that persecute Him.
Tonight the heavens opened and rain fell. Book burning didn't take place. There were several news crews, reporters, Sheriff and protesters. If I had been the pastor I would have been embarrassed that more protesters came out than members. There may have been books destroyed but when the flock left the building it was the woman and children first, only five of them and then the pastor himself. As the woman and children left he turned out the porch light, as if trying to hide their identities and turned it on and then back off when he left.
During the service it was said the news crew and others were listening through the floor upstairs and could here yelling from the service. The only disappointing thing was that more locals didn't attend the event. One came as far as Chattanooga, Tn and others an hour or so away. Was a peaceful event and most that were there didn't agree with this radical man!

I am a teacher that teaches all girls and a couple of them like to bring this trash and read them during my class time, Needless to say I confiscate the magazines and they become ashes in my fireplace , Of Course I run this by their mothers and all have agreed.
This man Marc Grizzard has no reason being a "pastor" as her calls himself..because its about helping people find Christ...and burning their music selections is wrong and it just pushes lost people away. Just beause you go to college to be a precher doesn't mean you are one. By doing this with burning God's Bibles for no reason other than stuipity is wrong and all it will do is make people decide to turn the other way and not focus on God, and to learn to trust Him and believe in Him.
