With two event titles and five individual medals in all, Canada was the most successful nation in event finals as Top Gym concluded Sunday in Charleroi, Belgium.
Canadian juniors Briannah Tseng and Maddie Copiak won the event titles on vault (14.35 average for a DTY and Yurchenko 1.5) and floor exercise (13.6), respectively, while 11-year-old wunderkind Shallon Olsen added bronze on vault and a silver medal on floor.
Canada's Maegan Chant, who is coached by former Romanian star Cristina Bontas at World Class Gymnastics in Ontario, showed her versatility by winning bronze on balance beam. Chant, who threw a rare double-twisting Tsukahara on vault at this year's Canadian Championships, is more known for her work on vault and floor, where she does a double layout and a full in pike.
Rising Belgian star Bérangère Fransolet won the title on balance beam for the host country (13.8), while Russia's Yulia Chemareva won uneven bars (14.65).
Italy's Alessia Leolini, the silver medalist in Friday night's all-around final, took another silver on bars and bronze on floor. All-around champion Evgenia Shelgunova won silver on vault, as did Romania's Paula Tudorache on beam.
A mixed Canadian/Russian team, featuring Shelgunova, Chemareva, Tseng and Gymnastics Mississauga's Tara Mauchel won the team portion of the event with 104.65 points, beating a combined Belgium/Sweden team and a Netherlands/Great Britain team.
