St. Louis gun rights advocates no doubt remember last summer when just across the river, anti-gun Congressman (now ex-)Congressman Phil Hare said he "doesn't worry about" the Constitution, or whether legislation he supports would run afoul of it. Similarly, when rabidly anti-gun Speaker (now ex-Speaker) of the House Nancy Pelosi was asked about the Constitutionality of the massive health care "reform" law, her response was "Are you serious? Are you serious?" asked with a combination of incredulity and disdain.
Now, we're seeing this rejection of the Constitution yet again, this time from a South Carolina state legislator. Fox Carolina reports:
An Orangeburg lawmaker, who's against the proposal, said in an interview that the time spent on researching the constitutionality of this bill could be spent on more productive legislative endeavors.
The proposal in question is a bill that would add South Carolina to the growing list of states that have passed Firearms Freedom Act legislation, whereby guns, ammunition and firearm accessories manufactured in one state, and sold only within that state, would be exempt from federal gun regulation. Remarkably, a detractor of the idea apparently thinks it's a waste of time to explore the Constitutional implications of the legislation.
Or perhaps it's not so remarkable. After all, when the Bill of Rights states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, those who want to do the infringing have little choice but to ignore or disparage the Constitution (or just edit it to one's advantage).

That "Orangeburg" lawmaker is none other than Bradley Hutto, a trial lawyer and grad of Georgetown Law. The among the few progressive/fascists we have in the state senate, a few too many. He's consistently opposed to freedom and liberty, greatly favoring the unitary, militarist state.
He needs to be in jail.
Ah--thanks for putting a name on the guy. I find it odd that the story referred to him no more specifically than as "an Orangeburg lawmaker."
How telling, and how disgusting, that the outgoing democrat Speaker of the House, the People's House no less, would describe her most prideful "crowning achievement" as passage of an Unconstitutional "law". And not just any Unconstitutional "law", but one giving unprecedented power to federal government employees to take even more rights and freedoms from citizens of the United States and fine and jail them for refusing to obey the unconstitutional "law".
"...the time spent on researching the constitutionality of this bill...".
It's really not that difficult nor time consuming. "Lawmakers" need only refer to Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution to choose from a rather short list of the things Congress is authorized to do; and then read the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution to view the Unalienable Rights from which Congressional action is strictly prohibited.
"The merit of our Constitution is not that it promotes democracy, but checks it." - Horatio Seymour
It is a well-known principle that later law supersedes earlier law.
Art.I, sect.8 grants authority to regulate interstate commerce. The later 2nd amendment removes "arms" from that area. QED.
As much as I hate seeing the US Constitution being smeared, abused, walked on, we as voting citizens of these states and nation have no one to blame but ourselves for voting these lying buffoon putz's into office. Each voter makes a choice, unfortunately some voters are so STUPID, look who is in office as President. No wonder we're in trouble, all of the lying A- -HOLES start out in State Legislatures and then graduate to the Feds.
We have a whole slew of problems at present:
1. Schools no longer teach American Government with any real rigor or truth
2. Colleges are almost all infested with emotion driven left wing whack jobs as profs
3. We furnish pensions for elected officials - that should never happen as it encourages careerism where turnover is much healthier
4. We have not, until very recently, been candid with our representatives. The rancor shown in Town Hall meetings summer before last was wholesome. It scared a bunch of them, but not enough to preclude passage of Obamacare.
I could go on, but the important point is to watch what comes out of the incoming Congress and vote any of them out in 2012 that don't hew to constitutional limits.
