Animal rights extremists declare war

While most of us were sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner or thinking about it, a network of animal rights extremists has declared war on trappers, publishing on-line a state-by-state list of these folks to be targeted in their own communities.

Animal rights zealots can be dangerous. They have physically attacked people, committed acts of arson and vandalism, and now appear to be encouraging violence against trappers. Across much of the country, hunting seasons are now underway or moving into late seasons here in Washington State.

The announcement on a website called “Negotiationisover.com” has gotten the attention of Evergreen State hunters on the Hunting-Washington website. Likewise, Michigan hunters are discussing this. In a statement bylined by Gerald Hoffman and Camille Marino, the compilation of a trapper’s list is explained thusly: “Eliminate them and we liberate those who would have been their future victims.”

"But if we want to be a bit more strategic in our approach, let’s focus on the source of the horror: the trappers. Thus far, this community of violent inbreds has remained largely below our radar. The time to change that is now.

"Therefore, we have compiled a state-by-state list of trappers so that each of us may focus on the problem in our own communities. Eliminate them and we liberate those who would have been their future victims."— Gerald Hoffman & Camille Marino

Don’t know about you, but to this column, that sounds an awful lot like a death threat. By their own words, this pair is hoping to celebrate “the death of their entire (trapping) industry” by Thanksgiving 2011.

Why would these people post a list of trappers nationwide if there was no intent to actually target them, and their families?

MEANWHILE, the Seattle area has experienced two violent, unprovoked attacks this week. One attack left a woman seriously stabbed in Des Moines, the other left a man dead from the blows of an axe up on Capitol Hill.

In both cases, the suspects used weapons other than firearms, which amounts to proof positive that in the absence of guns, people will still figure out ways to commit mayhem. Gun prohibitionists don’t seem to grasp that.

            Perhaps they never will.

What does it take to be counted as a "trapper"? If everyone signed up, this "war" would be meaningless.

The so-called 'war' is meaningless unto itself, if you think about it. What do fishermen do when netting a fish? Is that not trapping? Commercial fisheries all the more so.

I don't like trapping, but that's just me. And, I certainly wouldn't undertake to stand in another hunter's way in the search for his own livelihood.

I will suppose that the idiots mentioned --and they ARE idiots-- will next proceed to seek out and kill every spider they see/find/discover, inasmuch as spiders do =exactly= what the trappers do.

Spiders are as natural as Man.

The worst part of this matter is that the IDIOTS aren't even 'well-intentioned.' Rather, they are self-deceived.

And you know the old saying about self-deception: You can't talk someone out of something they weren't talked into to begin with.

I agree with Dave: Their website remarks are tantamount to incitement to murder. All that's left is for someone to act upon those words, and they will become accessories to that crime.

We trap feral hogs all the time, and varmints at times, depending on season. Pest control, food, and occasional profit. We also tend to be armed. So a bunch of hippies are going to go attack trappers? My super-combo license doesn't have tags for hippies and lunatics but Texas law is pretty forgiving about using armed self-defense when appropriate. They should buy life insurance first.

I checked the news. A couple people shouted "no more fur" at a CNN reporter in front of a Macy's. Seriously hardcore radicals, aye?

The basic problem here is not a simple delusion. These people loath themselves and, therefore, the entire human race as a basic fundamental principle. They understand absolutely nothing about nature, the environment or science of any kind. They often seem quite willing to die themselves to further their absolute hate of mankind.

They are quite different from the usual "environmentalist" who says they want to eliminate "excess" population (with themselves exempted, of course). Their science is often sloppy and misguided, but they do seem to care.

Don't mistake one for the other. Thank goodness this very sick aberration is relatively rare.
