"What's really needed in this city right now is to get beyond both the knee-jerk 'yes' and 'no' camps," The Oregonian Editorial Board declares in response to new "gun control" proposals from Mayor Sam Adams.
"Portlanders should be wary about doing anything just for the sake of doing it," they continue. "But they should also be willing to examine the evidence, listen to police and gang outreach workers say what might help them, and then support some experimental changes."
Hmm. Sounds fair. Sounds reasonable. Sounds middle-of-the-road.
Sounds moderate.
Not a bad act for raging leftists. They do it all the time. That way, those who "knee-jerk" stick to principles like "yes" for freedom and "no" to infringements on liberty can be painted as "extremists." And "hatriots." And "domestic terrorists."
Because after all the high-minded pretense of reaching out to all sides has been discarded and their case for ratcheting up new restrictions laid out, we are led to this engineered conclusion:
"All five are aimed at curbing illegal gun use. And there's no reason why anyone in Oregon, except criminals, should be opposed to doing that."
Well, sure there are. Lots of them. And good ones.
Just because you're aiming at something doesn't mean you won't end up hitting the wrong target--as the antis do with each new citizen disarmament measure that only restricts the "law-abiding" and doesn't do jack against the hard core predators who are causing the problems.
The thing is, ultimately, the gungrabbers have to deal with those of us who will not obey, who will not back up and who will not disarm. They may pass new edicts, but those of us adhering to "the supreme law of the land" will consider them void.
It won't be the first time for some of us.
So in a way, The Oregonian is right. "Criminals" will oppose them.
Except some of us prefer the term "Freedom Outlaws," honoring a grand American tradition articulated by Thoreau and executed by courageous pioneer patriots throughout the years to the betterment of the Republic.
It's our turn now.
And the collectivists' move.

Speaking of lead...
When host James B. Towle asked me what I wanted to discuss today on Trigger Sports Live! I told him EPA backing down from the lead ammo ban petition would be a good and timely topic.

Spreading the word
Regular readers know I ask for help sharing the links on these columns to get the word out about them and grow the readership--anything from forwarding links to like-minded friends, to posting links on blogs, in forums...
Here's an example of someone coming up with a good and creative way to do that.
Thanks! I appreciate it.

I don't think I have to tell the readers of your column that the mayor's proposals are just another attempt by anti-rights politicians to burden the peaceable gun owner while offering nothing in return.
The Second Amendment exists and has been incorporated. If you examine the history of selective incorporation you will see that, once a part of the Bill of Rights is incorporated, the protected right is expanded by the courts. Politicians and the police need to deal with that or find work at McDonald's. It will be a hard road to gain the lost trust but gun owners will help to curb criminal use of firearms if the politicians and police will work with them in good faith. These proposal are not in good faith and gun owners know it.
Glad the EPA listened... this time.
Don't take your eyes off the ball, folks. They're not going to quit trying until their whole apparatus is dismantled - on every front. This non-voluntary government has no legitimate authority to dictate our medicine, food sources, or any other personal choices - much less our right to the tools for self defense.
The mayor wants people to know he cares about Portland's crime rates. He's going to reduce crime by controlling law abiding citizens access to firearms. How does the editorial board at The Oregonian think this will work? He also proposes that we tell the bad guys that they can't hang out in bad neighborhoods with other bad guys. Where does The Oregonian think the bad guys are going to go instead, to church? The saddest part of this whole story is that the people of Portland evidently support both this newspaper and Mayor Adams.
The left, LIES! The left controls the media, so the lies that the left tells, go unreported. With such power, and the right mind set and people involved, imagine the possible outcomes! Oh yeah, we don't have to imagine do we. History, until they can re-write it, shows us everything we need to know....
One of the most dangerous words that the left likes to use is REASONABLE!
Since when is a God given right defined as REASONABLE!
Like it or not, in the end our rights will be defined in the streets. The left in this country will not stop until they are in TOTAL and COMPLETE control.
That means no guns, no private property, and no freedom at all except for the new left elite!
These psychopath elite believe they are descendants of a great spiritual people and their goal is to have their offspring inherit the earth
Our country is in trouble and sadly most of the people don’t have a clue
Got something to say?
