It's almost funny how desperate some on the left are to conflate gun owners with haters—and instructive to see how filled with hate some of these "progressives" reveal themselves to be. A good example of this is the meme that the Second Amendment March is scheduled to take place on April 19 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.
Here's a sample of sentiment gleaned from around the web:
WOW, they are celebrating a terrorist attack on the US?
and
god, how do these gun nuts sleep at night? ...They probably think McVeigh was a hero. some certainly think Koresh is. these are the Tea Baggers among us. loons, misfits, gun nuts, paranoids, racists and traitorous cowards.
Here's my personal favorite:
They are celebrating the deaths of innocent Americans and the terrorist who murdered them.
This is just a group of gun nuts who think they are going to stand up to the black president and show him who is boss. I am sure some Republican will get involved to make money off of this little rally. The FBI will be watching these guys like bugs under glass.
There is one other thing, there are more guns on the street than these goons can even imagine. The PD has already said they don't guarantee their safety.
To the gang leaders I would say, shoot accurately.
Ah, the voices of tolerance...
Still, these are obscure comments. If left alone on sites like "Think Progress" and others, we could sit back and smile as the malcontents and true haters seethe and stew in their own juices.
If left alone.
Never one to leave a good propaganda tactic untouched, Rachel Maddow of MSNBC is doing what she can to propagate the gun owners = domestic terrorist sympathizers implication.

Smarmy, self-impressed...typical Maddow. And fundamentally untruthful with her assertion that speaking out on behalf of a cornerstone element in the Bill of Rights is "anti-government"...
So why was April 19 chosen?
From Second Amendment March founder Skip Coryell:
"We chose that date because it is the 235th anniversary of Lexington-Concord."
It's never been a secret—it's at the core of the rally. Look on the Second Amendment March website—right there in the banner you see this:
On their promotional flyers, you see this:
Gee, why the minuteman if not to commemorate the courage and conviction shown by armed citizens on April 19, 1775, otherwise known as Patriots' Day?
True, Maddow and her ilk would rather fabricate non-existent associations to create a "hatriots" theme—and you'll note they have not produced one shred of substantiation. But that courage and conviction, exemplified in a spirit she reviles, resulted in a "supreme Law of the Land" that guarantees her right to spew the vile nonsense that's made her the rich collectivist she is.

Speaking as a liberal, pro-choice, female, Democrat *gun owner* with a dead-eye aim (I suspect this makes me your worst nightmare), I have to tell you that I find it *extremely* disturbing that the open-carry rally and "2nd Amendment March" are timed for the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombings. Any thinking person would consider this behavior a threat to federal employees.
she has to "stick to her kind" to keep her job...

"To the gang leaders I would say, shoot accurately."
Funniest statement I've read today. Clearly, this commentor has no sense of irony whatsoever.
HEY FIONA!
"We chose that date because it is the 235th anniversary of Lexington-Concord."
Good call on reading that article before making an ignorant statement.
We know and expect such thinly vialed vitriol from her ilk (simply read Fiona's comment) but more are waking up. However, someone needs to school Maddow and Fiona about the men who stood that day at Lexington & Concorde- men like Sam Whittemore (simply do a search on his name) who, at 80 years of age, stood for freedom and liberty. The blood of such men still flows in America's veins.
Fiona, you are further proof that gun rights cross political lines. I'm glad that you embrace your freedoms, even if you don't embrace the facts of the article.
Do you mean Maddow has yet to cover the story "How ACORN Money Purchased Arms for Radical Groups." ?
Has anyone covered this story?
Fiona, as Steve K said, you either didn't read the whole article, or you dismissed the real reason as soon as you saw it. This IS about the day the Patriots resisted the British soldiers with the very firearms that the Brits had come to take by force, not about celebrating a terrorist attack on the U.S.
By the way, did you know that McVeigh attacked a government building, because in his twisted mind, he wanted to avenge Waco? Remember that little shindig? That's another April 19th day, where the Feds burned 80 people alive, after they tried to invade the compound in February, for no lawful or Constitutional reason. After the BATF was driven off, the FBI brought tanks and laid siege to the place, and after they grew impatient, they burned the place down. There is a note of irony here: one of the trumped-up charges against the Davidians used to justify the Fed's actions was child abuse. Then they murder the children. I'm sure this made perfect sense to the Feds but I'm baffled.
(cont) Where are the screams from the media of terrorism committed by our own government on this day? There are none. The media hailed these killers as heroes, because they were "from the government, and we're here to help."
You called yourself our "worst nightmare", and you more of a nightmare than most liberals, for you would use your gun not in defense of the Constitution, but in support of the Magic Marxist. In keeping with the spirit of the day, that would make you a "Redcoat".
@ fiona64
Any person (thinking with my twisted logic) would consider this behavior a threat to federal employees.
Maddow is a moron. So are the idiots that espouse the anti-gun agenda.
Why does anyone bother with MSNBC anymore anyway? They don't have much of an audience, this just helps their cause.
Rachel smears the Second Amendment March and the Tea Parties becuase she has no substantive argument to counter them. If you have no substantive argument, then the next tactic is to marginalize them.
Love that phrase..."Magic Marxist!"
I don't bother with MSNBC, much of the broad cast media resembles Pravda anyway. Their purpose is to shape public opinion in step with the regime in power. Our media, for the most part, no longer tries to report the news and current events in an unbiased manner. That is one reason I choose to look at sites like this one and learn what is really going on, thanks!
Probably the greatest danger of a propagandized broadcast news media is not the distortion of truth, it is that many people will realize it is just bs and choose to ignore current events all together!
Isn't it amazing that the only statist Democrat to comment is making death threats? I have to wonder, aloud, given the constant theme from the left statists that people who own firearms are compensating does that mean our resident statist has "male part" envy?
Why do you think "progressives" would even recognize that logo? They probably think it's Timothy McVeigh wearing a Che Guevara beret and carrying an ANFO stirring rake.
And to round out the list of things to celebrate on April 19th, let's not forget the glorious resistance offered to the Nazis by the ARMED Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto -- in which roughly 500 freedom fighters with an average of one gun apiece protected 300,000 of their compatriots against the mightiest army in Europe for over a month.

Did you check your brain at the door. That has to be the silliest statement I have ever heard. Maybe you should go to the Second Amendment March web site and do a little reading.
I assume that is a rhetorical question.
Typical liberal behavior: if one has no valid argument, besmirch your opponent. There's a reason their ratings are in the toilet. Ms. Maddow seems to be part of the problem, not the solution.
We are winning our rights back all over this great land. Let the anti gunners whine. They are the ones who look stupid!
You expect people to believe that the intention of picking the 19th all along was to commemorate Lexington-Concord? More people associate 4/19 with the Waco siege and Oklahoma City domestic terrorism, and you know it.
Hey Joe, let me get this straight. Because more people you know are ignorant we are guilty, having been convicted by your ignorance and lack of character, education, and knowledge of history, morality, and anything resembling cogent mental processes. I got that right and you know it.
Commemorate might sound better than celebrate, I tell you what.
Joe, you expect us to believe that more people associate 4/19 with waco and oklahoma city than with Patriots's Day because you say so. You're wrong..........and you know it!!
oops!! Patriots'
Maddow needs a patriot chip inserted in her forehead!
Evidently journalistic standards have been relaxed a little too much, I offer Rachel Maddow as proof. I'll be at the Second Amendment March in DC, I'm guessing she won't, but will probably have a story to run so I'll know what I missed by being there.
@Crotalus - Waco made all kinds of sense to Janet Reno and Bill Clinton, just as similar fire-play made sense to Adolph Hitler and his cronies. Sounds like it may make sense to this reporter as well.
Given the way that the events of April 19, 1775 are covered in our school systems today, it's no surprise that Ms. Maddow is unfamiliar with them. But then again, do you really expect the public schools to tell the story of how formerly loyal British subjects became so radicalized by the treatment they received from their own government that some of them ran miles to open fire on their own troops? Come to think of it, I wonder if Obama, Pelosi and Reid are familiar with the story either.
Rachel,
The 2nd amendment march on April 19th 2010 celebrates the battle of Lexington and Concord MA. I live here so I know things like that. Perhaps you should read and educate yourself before speaking out about matters you know nothing about. Your fear and loathing of the armed citizens of the US is only going to grow stronger so enjoy the unfounded hatred you cling to. In the past year more people in the USA have become 2nd amendment supporters and have chosen to arm themselves than ever before so the numbers are going up not down. The battle of Lexington and Concord was fought by men with guns, men who through a willingness to sacrifice life supported and upheld your God given right to free speech and freedom of press. Perhaps a thank you would be in order, but I doubt you would be inclined to say thanks. Keep spewing the message of unfounded hate and we the armed citizens of the USA will remain peacefully aware of people like you trying to infringe on our rights.
Speaking of April 19, 1775, this year the Appleseed Project's special commemoration of the battles of Lexington and Concord includes over 100 sites on April 17 and April 18. No matter where you live in the USA there's going to be one within driving distance of you. There are still slots on the firing line available for most of them. Begin the registration process by clicking on the link David provides to the right of these posts. If you are reading this you are obviously a gun rights supporter. Show Ms. Maddow and the rest of her ilk where to get off by making this the best weekend in Appleseed history. It will be the most fun you have ever had in two days, you will learn about the founding of this country, you will leave on Sunday a better marksman, and you will send a message to our opponents. I guarantee it.
Never fear, there were writters for the London Times that said the same thing in 1776. These commentators speak out of lack of knowledge. They have no knowledge of firearms, so they must be bad. Kind of stupid isn't it?
I wish you'd get her name right - it's Madcow!
Socialist "hussy" ... she even dresses the part of a Marxist/Maoist. I could care less what her and her left wing ilk talk about. Oxygen Thieves one and all.
At first glance I was thinking 'butch-dike'.
This Maddow woman is clearly an uneducated moron.
Maybe if shed learn some facts before she blows semi warmed air from her blowhole, shed understand the difference between 'gun owner' and 'armed lunatic'.
Apparently her parents werent able to teach her the finer things in life...such as the gift of discernment. My guess is when she looks at her breakfast plate each morning her cook has to put little sticky notes in her meal so she'll know which is the eggs and which is the toast...
So, Ms. Madcow is at it again!
So here we have a news person that approves a gangs having illegal guns and wants them to shoot and kill law abiding citizens? And the cops are supporting her? What is wrong with this picture. I say we post her home address and let all the gangs in her area know that she does not have any guns in her home and that it would be easy pickings. Even better, put a sign outside her home with that information on it and see how she likes it.
Rachel Maddow has gathered a group of rapt followers, many left over from her success at Air America, all deeply impressed with her balenced journalism, her sharp wit, wisdom, and knowledge. I'm also sure that all thirteen of them would be deeply dismissive of your article - if they would ever read it. Their minds being firmly made up, they are not going to be confused or misled by any of your facts or information, however.
"Smarmy, self-impressed...typical Maddow" - She's a bore, dull to the core. Lefties think she is balanced because they don't know any better. To them, left wing opinions are the center and they think right wing opinions such as those which our founders gave to us are extreme.
I think Rachel M. is absolutely correct about the Radical Right wing crazies. Carrying guns to demonstrations and puffing up like the assinine freaks the are. We are selling guns to people at gun shops, gun shows and garage sales that end up in the hands of criminals as there are no laws against it. She is correct.
No...shes an uneducated moron like you.
Learn some facts before you choke on your own stupidity.
The percentage of guns from shows that end up being used in crimes is ridiculously low, nitwit.
There's a higher chance of YOU blowing your top and mowing innocent pedestrians down with your car.
