Westchester 'firearm safety' claim shows media bias

"Westchester gun owners take aim at county's firearm safety laws," the New York Daily News cautions.

"Westchester gun owners are balking at the county's firearm safety laws," reporter Abby Luby characterizes.

If we stipulate that a "firearm safety law" is one that will make the peaceable public safer, we need to establish the assumption that what's going on in Westchester does.

What is going on in Westchester?

"Scott Sommavilla, president of the Westchester County Firearm Owners Association, criticized police for using 'no-knock' (if need be) search warrants issued by local judges.

"The warrants allow police to enter homes - by force if needed - to verify weapons listed on permit applications are safely stored."

Forgive me if I argue that forcing someone to lock up their means of defense does not make a homeowner safer if they need to use their gun to stop a home invader.

Forgive me if I argue that sending in armed squads to kick down doors and hose down any home owner who might twitch the wrong way does not enhance public safety.

If these gun owners had not shown a willingness to obey laws by registering their guns and getting licenses/permits in the first place, the "Only Ones" wouldn't even know who to invade.

And the arrogance of the legislators in dismissing gun owner concerns is typical of those who perceive a lock on political power. Like all bullies, they love to rub it in the faces of those they lord over who may have the gall to protest their rule.

That government was established to secure the blessings of liberty does not factor into things with those who have discovered its power can also be used for personal benefit.

But imagining what the results of their edicts must look like through their eyes, I guess I can cede the "firearm safety" claim made by their "Authorized Journalist" media cheerleaders.

Criminals are made safer by these laws, as the government has mandated gun owners give them a head start advantage in any home invasion.

And cops are made safer, too. They can spend their time harassing people who have already jumped through all their damn hoops. That's a lot safer than going after sociopathic career predators who have no reservations about taking human life.

But what about those of us who object to being treated like criminals, and want to be able to repel or stop a threat if it crosses our threshold? Well, we don't matter, do we?

And just where do the left wing scoundrels get off with calling "US" nazis when they enact statutes enabling them to carry out nazi behavior under color of law?

I think I'm not going to "register" any guns... or get any permission slips.

Sense-reversing typo: "Forgive me if I argue that sending in armed squads...enhances public safety." I think you meant "does not enhance".

Otherwise, great article. The twisted, backward logic these would be tyrants use never ceases to amaze me.

  • Right you are, fixed, thanks--now we'll see how long it takes the change to appear.

    David,

Just how are 'no knock' warrantless searches feasible/legal under SCOTUS many rulings pertaining to the Constitutional Right of 'unreasonable searches and seizures'?

I'd also posit that after the VERY first one of these unconstitutional 'no knock' 'searches' goes horribly bad, with dad and/or mom being shot in front of the kids by MP5/AR16 toting armoured Cop Goons, either 'target practice' will be redefined by the locals and/or armed resistance to any breach of a home will ensue.

After that, gun owners 'at large' in Westchester will have to decide to either live on their knees or stand up and confront the council, the police, and the feds in an armed manner.

Violence is in the offing, or slavery is, and quite frankly, not knowing the area or the people of it, I have nary a clue as to which way it will (not would) go?

Enlighten me if you would please.

    Cheers and truly great article.

I believe that the Heller decision makes safe storage laws unconstitutional for firearms in someones home.
I believe that McDonald now requires the states to follow Heller. Please have an attorney read the decisions

I'm no attorney but his seems like a clear violation of our Fourth Amendment Rights. Further more, the average person hearing someone busting into their homes is going to assume their not there to sell Girl Scott cookies and start shooting.

Tis the problem when living 'behind enemy lines' with anti-self defense/pro-criminals passing unconstitutional laws that infringe upon the people's liberty.

NYS/NYC should be sued into a 'shall' issue state.

Does the phrase "jack booted thugs" ring any bells? I wonder how long we will have to wait before one of "the only ones" smokes a homeowner.

I suppose it is good to know that if I ever (G-d forbid!) find myself living in Westchester again (it's where I grew up) I won't have to register my guns, because I'm not going to store them "safely", therefore I will be a criminal, and SCOTUS has ruled directly on the subject; requiring criminals to register weapons is self-incrimination therefore the only people who must register are the law abiding.

This is completely absurd! They want to take our firearms away from us when we need them the most. I still fail to see the reason and logic behind this sort of unconstitutional law.

I have relatives that live in NC as well.

Also, remember our wonderful Republican Governor Sonny Perdue vetoed SB291 in Georgia this year that would have repealed Georgia's emergency disarmament law. Yep, that's right, a Republican wouldn't give up the power that the position of governor holds. Its hard for those RINO's Progressives, and Collectivist to give up their power isn't it?

Freedom? You'll do as you're told or else and you'll pay for all of this abuse and like it too! Who do you think you are anyway, a citizen with rights? We'll tell you when and if we decide you can have a right to anything, cause we're in charge of you dumb ass! Get it? We're in charge, not you! If we have anymore problems with you or hear one negative syllable come of of your mouth, out police will be sent to deal with you. Are we clear *hithead?
