"Iraq Veteran Stripped of Right To Bear Arms," 5 News Ft Smith-Fayetteville tells us.
Why?
"A year ago the Irelan's began receiving a small stipend from Veterans Affairs because Lana had to take over the family's finances...The V.A. declared Wayne Irelan incompetent and now his right to own a gun is gone."
Why would they do that, and what are the repercussions?
"Irelan has post traumatic stress disorder from the Iraq war, but his wife says he has never been violent...The couple didn't know Wayne's gun rights had been terminated until they went to get a gun out of pawn. Days later Wayne got a letter from the Arkansas State Police saying his concealed carry permit had been revoked. The ATF has told the Irelans that they could go to jail if a firearm is found in their home."
How did such a state of affairs come to be?
Why don't we ask that "gun lobby" we're told never compromises?
This 5 News story seems short on details. I didn't mean to intrude on Fort Smith Gun Rights Examiner Steve D. Jones' turf, so if he finds out anything further, I'll be sure to point it out.
I do find it interesting that ATF essentially advised that one prohibited person is all it takes to disarm everyone under the same roof. If that's the case, they need to investigate former Westchester, NY anti-gun prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, who claimed she had guns three years before she and her felon husband separated. Maybe they can team up with the local cops and do a "no-knock" gun safety storage check while they're at it.

Clash of the 'pro-gun' Titans?
Hardly. Even though they're making the obligatory noises, it appears all we have is posturing that doesn't even qualify as a slap fight.
We talked yesterday about the Haslam/McWherter governor's race in Tennessee. On further checking, I recalled that Knoxville Gun Rights Examiner Liston Matthews covered this ground last April.
Go read his report. Bill Haslam already had a shot at carrying the ball and he dropped it like a hot potato. And make sure you check out the links Liston provides for candidate answers to gun questions published in The Tenneseean, and his follow-up analysis.
It will be interesting to see if either of these candidates respond to my new request, and if they do, what they'll say.

Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina has a bill to correct this outrage, but our good friend and gun rights hero, Harry Reid of Nevada has refused to allow the bill to be brought to a vote or to be attached as an amendment to some other legislation. This even though the Veterans Second Amendment Protection Act came out of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee with strong bi-partisan support - including cosponsorship from Democrat committee chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont.
The much touted NICS Improvement Act of several years ago - in it's final version - was also supposed to prevent this sort of thing.
Only people who have been adjudicated to be a danger to themselves or others should face restrictions, not people who have trouble balancing a checkbook.

Maybe the people of Nevada who put Harry Reid in office should be made aware of the great diservice they have done to this country's vets and maybe the vets should boycott Nevada business. I wonder how many vets stay at casinos and how many of those casinos contribute to Harry Reid?
There is plenty of blame to cover much ground on this one. Add in Janet "from another planet" Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security, for branding all returning combat veterans as potential terrorists.
'Shall not be INFRINGED' was suppose to be the law of the land of liberty.
How that has been perverted to deny a wounded warrior his hard earned liberty is beyond comprehension.
Clearly, those PRO-CRIMINAL law makers have treason as their reason...
I'm writing in Fred Thompson's name for governer of Tennessee. Screw the other two.
Yet another example of the blatant power grabs used by those who would be our Masters. Much of the problem in the republic today is based upon the premise that we Patriots have accepted: That such actions are tolerable and that we must fight them in the courts.
We have been far too polite to those who would be our Masters. They take it as weakness and gain ground inch by inch, precedent by precedent.
Had my Great Grandfather and his generation stood up in 1934 when NFA was passed, we would not have to stand up now...
...but, as his son told me often... if a bullfrog had wings he wouldn't bump his butt...
There's "incomeptent to manage a household" and then there's "mentally incompetent". They're quite different. I can believe someone with head injuries or PTSD might be affected enough not to be able to concentrate to handle accounting, but still be quite together enough to know the difference between reality & non-reality for purposes of shooting a bad guy.
Thankgod that the people have seen what liberals consider good for the country which we all know is false.
I would say that soon we will get a much better educated
and realistic group of people to make important decisions
concerning our rights and some old school values that
we are lacking in our times. Enough of the political correctness and over reacting on everything that has made our society a joke.
Bill Clinton's anti-gun legacy lives on in Arkansas. When a law replaces common sense, it's a bad law and should be repealed. It's amazing that the only legislator with any common sense in Arkansas apparently is John Boozman. Then again, maybe it's not so amazing.

We'll just have to wait and see if this kind of stuff gets people riled up enough to actually vote.
You can only have a gun if you are directly working for them. How many times have they told veterans that have legitimate PTS to suck it up and hand them a rifle and send them back to the front. Notice how there is nothing wrong with them when they need the benefits, but everything is wrong if they want a gun. Double standards.
Simple solution... don't join the Army. If they can't send you where you'll have Traumatic Stress, you won't develop PTSD. It will also make 'foreign adventurism' all that much more difficult.
Cant wait until November so I can vote against these anti-american scumbags.
David it was discovered in Illinois the computers used for the Illinois FOID card system Data base will NO longer interface with the Federal government’s data base.
In steps the NRA, they supported a change in Illinois law under SB3421. The change allows a person disqualified from owning a gun after 20 years to petition the Illinois State police to restore their 2A. On the surface this looks pro-gun
What the change in the Law actually did was allow Illinois to qualify for Federal Grant money to upgrade the computers for the FOID card system.
In the end the NRA saved the FOID card system, PLUS Illinois can now include to their disqualifiers for owning a gun the list that bars veterans from owning guns, the NO fly list and the terrorist watch list.
David the NRA/ISRA supported a change in Illinois law that will allow the State to NOW add the veterans disarmament list to the FOID card data base an action that will disarm thousands of veterans in Illinois.

This mess started in 1999 when the VA entered into a deal to share 'incompetent' findings with the Feds. It DOES result in a Brady Bill hit and NICS denial.
However, can anyone PLEASE point out where this makes that person an insta-felon for guns already owned? A BATF agent is the last person to go to for straight scoop on gun laws. VA incompetency is a totally different animal than a judge finding you crazy.
Go whine like a little kid.now. This Anti Gun Issue started 30 Years ago when a lot of Americans set on their Brain instead of fighting back than.
