"An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and killed a man who broke into his South Side home Friday morning," Becky Schlikerman of The Chicago Tribune informs us.
The suspect, we are told, was armed:
"The officer...fired his service weapon several times, killing the intruder..."
Neighbors are supportive:
"They invaded his home, he did what he had to do..."
A core issue behind the McDonald Supreme Court case was so if the neighbors' homes are invaded, they'll be able to do what they have to do. That the Daley administration continues to fight recognition of their right to do so every step of the way ought to be all any fair-minded person needs to know.
It doesn't have to be this way. Not all law enforcement officials believe they should be the "only ones" capable of an armed response to aggression.
Consider these comments from Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength, following the shooting of a home intruder by a local judge:
"Strength said his office advocates that people be armed and follow the judge's example.
"'We support that 100 percent,' the sheriff said. 'If somebody breaks into your home, we expect and hope that what Judge Overstreet did this morning would be done by any other citizen.'"
Careful, Sheriff. Talk like that in some circles can get you smeared an "extremist" and a "hatriot."

Gee Whiz, didn't the cop have a sign in his yard that said home of a police officer, armed and extremely dangerous to criminals? the man regardless of his occupation did what he had to do to protect himself and anyone else in the house. An armed intruder by virtue of being armed is announcing that he will use violence to get what he wants. This is not about stealth. The man came armed for a fight and died trying to take what belonged to others. Daley is a kook and should be committed.
the INFRINGEMENT process revisited:
my carry license INFRINGEMENT date slipped by in march
in may i spent INFRINGEMENT time and INFRINGEMENT expense driving to thecourt house
there i was treated rudely by the INFRINGEMENT person as i paid $10 INFRINGEMENT cash, and $30 INFRINGEMENT money order. i then went thru the INFRINGEMENT humiliation of fingerprinting,AGAIN,they have previous INFRINGEMENT records.
i then filled out again, the INFRINGEMENT paperwork and was told i will be denied my right to bear arms for up to 90 days.
because of a piece of INFRINGEMENT paper i could not feel secure in my travels for 99 days.
as a law abiding citizen,i was at the mercy of any criminal till my magic piece of paper showed up 99 days later.
i didnt change when my INFRINGEMENT license expired, only the date on a piece of paper prevented me the rtba.
btw its all money, $30 for 4yrs OR $120 for life!! so for money only all limits are off!!
if no further background checks are needed for $120 why did i need to wait 99 days to be checked out again.i had my license 12 yrs
theres something phoney about the process. so i paid up my INFRINGEMENT money and can now enjoy the 2nd amendment rtba
"'We support that 100 percent,' the sheriff said. 'If somebody breaks into your home, we expect and hope that what Judge Overstreet did this morning would be done by any other citizen.'"
While I love the quote, if "any other citizen" did it they would likely face charges. Pretty bad state of affairs when only LEO or politicians and Judicial workers are the only ones with such privilege as to be able to defend their life.
Great article!
The criminal probably thought he was safe because cops can't shoot well anyway!
Well maybe some of them can....
I wonder if Daley will add this shooting to his list of homicides that he creates every year when he goes to the General Assembly and calls for more gun control?
There is a section of the Illinois FOID card law that allows for a referendum to be placed on the ballot Repealing the FOID card
Why doesn’t the ISRA/NRA work to repeal the FOID card?
Prior to the 68 GCA we could buy guns through the mail why doesn’t the NRA repeal that law as well?
This fall we need to elect people that will put the R word into practice
"....why doesn’t the NRA repeal that law as well?"
In short, because the NRA doesn't pass or repeal laws. That would be up to your legislators. If the ones you have won't repeal the laws you don't like, replace them.
Sarah Brady is fond of saying that "13 children are killed by guns every day in this country". Did you know that to get her total of 13, you have to define a child as anyone under the age of 22? Did you know that her total also includes young criminals shot dead by police and armed homeowners ( and sometimes by each other)? Bottom line, I don't know if this dead perp will make Mayor Daley's list, but depending on his age, he might well make Ms. Brady's!
