The Department of Education has issued a solicitation for...well, here, I'll let them tell you:
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) intends to purchase twenty-seven (27) REMINGTON BRAND MODEL 870 POLICE 12/14P MOD GRWC XS4 KXCS SF. RAMAC #24587 GAUGE: 12 BARREL: 14" - PARKERIZED CHOKE: MODIFIED SIGHTS: GHOST RING REAR WILSON COMBAT; FRONT - XS CONTOUR BEAD SIGHT STOCK: KNOXX REDUCE RECOIL ADJUSTABLE STOCK FORE-END: SPEEDFEED SPORT-SOLID - 14" LOP are designated as the only shotguns authorized for ED based on compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory, certified armor and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.
A 14" barrel is something denied to We the People. Unless our registration is approved and we pay a tax...
NFA '34 said so. And why?
The $200 making and transfer taxes on most NFA firearms were considered quite severe and adequate to carry out Congress’ purpose to discourage or eliminate transactions in these firearms.
The Miller ruling upheld it. Even though the "reasoning" was wrong.
And let's not forget the accusation of shortening barrels illegally was the catalyst for the government killing Randy Weaver's wife and son.
They really don't want us having these. But they want them for themselves. Why?
I join my colleague Seattle Gun Rights Examiner Dave Workman in asking "Why does Department of Education need 12-gauge shotguns?" Except I would insert "the hell" between "Why" and "does."
Per Workman's article:
A spokesperson for the Department of Education says the guns are for use by officers with the agency’s Office of Inspector General. They have full federal law enforcement authority, and the IG’s office investigates “waste, fraud, abuse, and other criminal activity involving Federal education funds, programs, and operations.”
And why do they have "full federal law enforcement authority"?
The Inspector General Act of 1978, 5 U.S.C. app. 3, established criminal investigative jurisdiction for the offices of presidentially appointed Inspectors General. However, prior to enactment of section 812 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (Pub. L. No. q07-296), the Inspector General Act did not provide firearms, arrest, or search warrant authorities for investigators: of those offices.
Click here to read how that changed and the "deadly force policy" the fedgov has decided is so necessary to endow the federal education bureaucracy with. And then keep in mind that the change took place on the watch of a president whose party had, not all that long ago, really, proposed eliminating the DOE altogether. This was the Republican party platform:
"The Federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in school curricula or to control jobs in the market place. This is why we will abolish the Department of Education."
What, GOP loyalists expect to turn stuff like this over to the Democrats and not have them use it?
On reconsideration, adding "the hell" to Workman's title seems much too tame...

IGs office investigates waste, fraud, abuse, and other criminal activity involving Federal education funds, programs, and operations.
These are all "white collar" crimes. Not usually the type of bad guy you need short barreled shotguns and dynamic entry teams to arrest.
If the ED kills enough uncooperative students and parents maybe the rest will learn the lesson and allow the state to program the remaing little sheepelettes to follow the state's agenda.
Those 14" barrel slide action shotguns could be a very effective teaching tool.
An agency that supports free fire zone school campuses, Stands behind zero tolerance for violence in schools, and supports the expulsion of gradeschoolers who point fingers at another student, now feels the need to purchase guns, the state has declared verbotten to we the people, to further some
administrative objective?
[W-III]
and the gross militarization of our law enforcement continues well past the point of absurdity.
Just another clear illustration why a separation of school and state is imperative.

They're probably for the school crossing guards in Chicago.
Well, they need shotguns to confiscate toys from schools.
Did anyone notice they changed the point of delivery in the revised Solicitation? It's not Chicago anymore.
"ADJUSTABLE STOCK FORE-END: SPEEDFEED SPORT-SOLID - 14" LOP are designated as the only shotguns authorized for ED based on compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory, certified armor and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts."
Wow! I was totally unaware of the fact that Dept of ED was allowed to possess weapons much less having an existing armory.
The question begging to be asked is, what other weapon are in this Dept of ED armory? Maybe Dept of ED should leave the investigations of waste, fraud, abuse, and other criminal activity involving Federal education funds, programs, and operations to the established law enforcement departments.
Speaking of waste and fraud, If anyone thinks the allocated money is going to buy shotguns I have a bridge to sell them.
Is it any wonder why kids are graduating high school and cannot pass basic tests? Here's a thought why don't they spend the money on teachers, schools, and textbooks instead.
I don't know what they're fixin' to teach, but I want to enroll!
This whole thing is totally absurd! Another reason to abolish this wasteful, un-necessary agency.
Anyone think they are "stockpiling" schools for a reason.... remember Kent State?
Sounds like they're really getting serious about their "zero tolerance policy."
Would anyone lay odds the "items" will be diverted somewhere along the line to a private sale to another country and a politician will put the profits in his pockets. The short barreled guns can never be sold or traded in. They will have to be destroyed or given to a foreign country.
"Answer Sheet" (a washington post blog) on this shotgun purchase has some information on danger IG offices see. Not just white collar crime.
twenty-seven (27) AIRSOFT BRAND MODEL 870 POLICE 12/14P MOD GRWC XS4 KXCS SF. RAMAC #24587 GAUGE: 12 BARREL: 14" .... AirSoft guns will easily be turned into machine guns by the BATFE. ED armourer shall dispose of existing ED REMINGTON shotgun inventory at next gunshow.
David Codrea, nowhere in the U.S Constitution is the word "education" mentioned.
So, DOE is illegal, in my book.
David this stinks far worse than hypocrisy.
A 14 shotgun barrel will not allow the powder charge to burn properly it takes an 18 barrel for that to occur.
These damned things are fire starters and true scatter guns.
This is completely wrong!
Remember the government has a history of diverting purchases and using other agencies to fund and divert attention from covert operations.
Good chance these are headed somewhere else!
My son is in grade school, if they so much as LOOK at him with a gun in their hands......My rifle has a much much longer range than them shotguns. They better think about this really hard.
"those that hammer their swords into plows, end up plowing for those who did not". Think on that REALLY hard.
Wondering why they need them? All you have to do is visit your local public High School and you can see they need help regaining control. The insane rule the asylum.
Got something to say?
