Portland Mayor Adams wants me to denounce gun group

"A war of words has erupted between Portland Mayor Sam Adams and a local gun lobby over proposed gun law changes." Anne Yeager of KGW.com News Channel 8 tells us.

Oregon Firearms Federation's Kevin Starrett calls the mayor's latest "gun control" proposals "laughable and pathetic." Adams counters it's OFF's "bullying tactics...that stalls out even the most common sense gun safety legislation."

Adams made the same claim on his Twitter social networking page:

"MayorSamAdams (August 23, 2010 1:31:18 PM) Why common-sense gun reforms are often stalled: bullying by 'Oregon's [only] no-compromise gun lobby'
http://bit.ly/dwHRR5 #pdxsafety #pdx."

It struck me that activists merely being vocal wouldn't stand much of a chance bullying the guy who controls both the Portland Police Bureau's budget and the appointing/firing of its chief, so I sent him this:

"Who's the 'bully'? The 'Only Ones' are on YOUR team."

To which he replied:

"David, please actually read the website (http://bit.ly/d0q0t4); the quote, '...no-compromise gun lobby,' is right on the front page.

"Bullying with the use of personal attacks by local gun-use advocates is commonplace here in Oregon. Others who have attempted to change gun laws, like Oregon State Sen. Ginny Burdick, have been unfairly personally pilloried by local gun-use lobbyists.

"As a leader in the national gun use coalition, even though we might disagree on this issue, I encourage you to denounce the Oregon Firearms Federation statement. I will encourage my supporters to stuck to the facts, as well.

"The gun safety reforms I have proposed pose no threat to law abiding gun owners. They should have been approved by the Oregon State Legislature years ago. And, you should support them. Sam"

I'll respond to his points. There are so many to respond to.

Tomorrow.

In the mean time, go read his account.

They just don't know it yet.

I'll be discussing anti-gun celebrities with American Trigger Sports Network host James B. Towle today at Noon PST.

The gala star-studded event will feature headliners like Drew Barrymore and Sylvester Stallone, with special citations for Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Sean Connery and a host of other Hollywood luminaries...

Why people worship some of these stage props is beyond me.

My rights are from God and not subject to the whims of elected socialists.
Common sense means that my freedom of expression, religious preferences, and ability to defended these rights, to mention my personal safety, are none of the governments business.
No compromise on my natural right. Absolutely.

I don't think any Holywood person should ever make a movie where guns are used if they don't believe in them or the Second Amendment. They should not be allowed to make their money off something they hate so much.

Another lefty mayor telling lefty lies supporting the abridgment of rights as safe and reasonable. People like him are more than a menace to the safety and freedom of others.

He actually wants to endanger others but claims to want to protect them! He's either lying or he's stupid!

Since he's a politician, he may be both!

"The gun safety reforms I have proposed pose no threat to law abiding gun owners...."

One of his proposals stands out: "Create new city crime of failure to report theft or loss of a firearm ".

Of course, this criminalizes being the victim of a crime.

And creating a "new city crime of failure to control access to a firearm by a child " is very likely to mean, "control access to a firearm in an emergency", which criminalizes law abiding citizens for taking prudent measures to avoid becoming victims.

I acknowledge that, lacking a criminal conviction on having "underaged lovers", it's distracting at the very least to bring that up.

But he is certainly a liar, in that he lies in his own press release. He needs to be mercilessly pilloried and personally attacked for attempting to render law-abiding peaceable citizens helpless, or worse, turn them into criminals for exercising a basic human right in a manner he does not approve. Regardless of the ages of his lovers, he is absolutely hurting children by depriving their parents of the right to defend them, and of the right to teach them how to defend themselves, and even that they, themselves, have the right to self-defense.

He wants everybody to be helpless when confronted by predators of all stripes, and that alone tells us which side he is on.

Burn him. Have no pity. He is an evil tyrant.

The "only no-compromise gun lobby" is the control lobby.

What is wrong with "no-compromise gun lobby"? To the anti's, compromise means the pro-gun side gives and they take. Never do I hear the anti's saying they will compromise. It is always a ratcheting up of the restrictions. Good for the OFF!

Adams is a disgusting lying tyrant who would not mind seeing people murdered as long as his "laws" are obeyed. That makes him just as guilty as the other, freelance murderers he is seeking to help with his "laws". Vermin.
Subjects like this make me miss "straightarrow" all the more.

Ask the mayor to define the terms "inalienable rights" and "shall not be infringed", to cite the sources of both terms and to explain how they are relevant to government powers in our republic. The only passing grade is 100%.

It can't be said any better than this: "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to tkeep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson

I've got a bone to pick with Ms Yeager and channel 8:

Why is it that grass roots activists are 'the gun lobby' and groups financed by Joyce Foundation et al are never 'the anti gun lobby'? Is it because people like her engage in slanted reporting?

I've got a real 'common sense' proposal; Disarm Government!
Hundreds of millions of people were murdered by their own governments in the last century, so if you really want to reduce crime...........

Anyone thought of putting the book, Death By ''Gun Control'' in the mayor's hands?

"People frequently ask why we are so dedicated to our cause? This book answers that question by collecting the key facts and arguments in one place.

People have asked us to present the whole JPFO argument in one place. We have done it. Available now in an easy-reading format and a handy size, the new book is entitled Death by Gun Control: The Human Cost of Victim Disarmament.

The message is simple: Disarmed people are neither free nor safe - they become the criminals' prey and the tyrants' playthings. When the civilians are defenseless and their government goes bad, however, thousands and millions of innocents die.

Professor R.J. Rummel, author of the monumental book Death by Government, said: ''Concentrated political power is the most dangerous thing on earth.'' For power to concentrate and become dangerous, the citizens must be disarmed.

What disarms the citizens? The idea of ''gun control.'' It's the idea that only the government has the right to possess firearms, and that citizens have no unalienable right to use force to defend against aggression.

Death by Gun Control carefully examines the ''gun control'' idea: its meaning, its purposes, its effects. It comes in many forms, but in every form it enables the evildoers and works against righteous defense. "

Must we disavow this man and his statement too - seems the fruit has fallen far from the tree of liberty.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. - Samuel Adams

So - how many gun laws SUPPORTING the right to self-defense has Mr. Adams supported?

Perhaps he should shut up until he can point to a law defending the right that he's supported.

I notice that Mayor Adams' blog has no provision for comments. Funny how that works. Every pro-gun blog I've ever read has had provision for readers to comment, whether pro or con. But anti-gun websites and blogs don't ever seem to offer the chance for reader comments. I wonder why that is? Could it be that they don't dare risk the chance that their lies would be exposed as indefensible?

I recall how, during the 1999 Proposition B campaign for CCW in Missouri, Robin Carnahan, the Governor's daughter, was going from city to city holding public press conferences and making outrageous claims about the proposed CCW law. Member of Missourians for Personal Safety made a point of being in the crowd and speaking to reporters to refute her claims. She and her cohorts finally resorted to closed meetings with the press in motel rooms order to avoid the reporters being exposed to the truth. That seems to be the modus operandi of the gun control movement.
