“As Reid Falters, Schumer Subtly Stands in the Wings,” The New York Times headline warns gun owners.
A perennial leading political enemy of the right to keep and bear arms, Schumer’s potential ascendancy to a vacated leadership slot would seem to validate NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox’s “four words” parroted by so many Fairfax apologists:
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer
Before the chorus of “We told you so” begins, let me just say this:
Unless all major political pundits are wrong, the House of Representatives, which the Senate needs consensus with in order to pass any bill up to the President for signature, is about to reverse polarity. The Senate itself may, as the outcome is widely regarded as a toss-up, but in any case, it appears certain an invincible majority will be denied the Senate anti-gun cabal. That is, if we can rely on all those NRA “A”-raters from the Democrat side of the aisle, although you couldn’t tell it by the way guys like Max Baucus and Jon Tester voted to empower Eric Holder, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan…
On top of that, if the self-sidelining of NRA’s “Political Victory” effort in Nevada enables “B”-rated Reid to prevail over “A”-rated Sharron Angle, all indications are he’s got new pals anyway, and this is quite conceivably the last term he’s got in him anyway
The dawn before a battle is no time to lose heart.
The Schumer boogeyman can only frighten those who let him. Those of us who don’t seek not their counsel nor their arms.
Those committed mind, body and soul to Liberty do not quail at his approach. We will not bend our knee, we will not disarm, and we won’t even compromise. We’re through backing up, whether the faint-hearted in the ranks support that or not. And we are everywhere.
Molon labe, baby.
And yeah, I know it’s not pronounced that way. But it’s liberating to say it like that, especially when you mean it.

On the Radio
I’ll be on two programs this Sunday:
The first is a return to Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Radio, in the 2:00 pm (EST) segment. We’ll be discussing the elections as they pertain to gun owner interests. Also on the program will be Dr. Larry Rudolph, President of Safari Club International, and Gun Owners of America Executive Director Larry Pratt.
Click here to read the Gun Talk Radio press release, and click here to see how you can listen to the program in your area, either via station broadcasting or through live streaming online.
Then, later in the evening I’ll be speaking with Mark Walters at Armed American Radio, 8:00 – 11:00 pm (EST), about elections and gun stories in the news, including the latest outrages from New York City and Phoenix. Also appearing will be gun law expert and author Alan Korwin, and blogger/candidate for Utah state representative George Hill (The Mad Ogre).
Click here to find a radio station in your area, or click here to listen live.
This is fun stuff, folks. Both Tom and Mark are pros and I think you’re going to enjoy the discussions. I hope you can join us for both programs.

Restore the Constitution
Rallies will take place this weekend at Atlanta, Luna, New Mexico, Brownsville, Texas and Horse Pens 40, Alabama. Mike Vanderboegh will be speaking at the AL event.
Speaking of Mike, he just made a second outreach (we discussed the first one here) to that Kansas City fusion center that seems so interested in him. So far, it appears they’d prefer to maintain the Agent 13 surveillance strategy.

My only concern is the Senate would then be able to ratify the UN Small Arms treaty and screw our rights that way. . . What do you think?
I just said what I think. Bring it on.
If we get to the point where they think they can get away with that, do you think you're getting out of this gently if you want to keep your freedom?
Treaty ratification requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate. Never. Happen.
"Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here." -- Captain John Parker, Lexington Militia, April 19,1775
If you fear the future then you are doomed to live in the past and for gun owners that has been a long trip in you know what. We have to risk something to get our freedoms back and if risking the horror of Schumer is the price we have to pay then so be it. The voters seem poised to rise up and shake both houses up in the nation's capitol and around the state in state governments. It just might be a brave new world we are embarking on where nothing can be promised and the old backroom dealmakers might not have as much clout. I say go for it and to ---- with the NRA and those that tell us how to vote.
Well said, David.
Does anyone think, for even a moment, that Harry Reid would have been so "friendly" to gun owners if he had 60+ votes for a bit more time? Of course not...he played it smart, politically, all these years and kept his enemies close. Think about a Democrat landslide this election, that essentially gives the Dem party a mandate to do as they will...Reid would make Schumer look like a Gun Control rookie.
You can't be afraid of "...what if..." in life, there are too many of them.
The tide is not only anti-Dem policy, it is also pro-2A policy. This is no time to secure the perimeter.
This is the time to throw everything you've got forward and take Vienna! (..and Fairfax, too)

I'm glad my rights don't depend on the "law" even though my liberty may.
If it's a war they want, let them start it.
"Chuckie Da Weasel" has no lock on majority leader, even if the Dems keep control of the Senate. That post is held by a senator elected by his/her party's caucus in January following the election. NRA, it's membership, and every law abiding gun owner needs to tell their Democrat senator that a vote for Schumer will be graded aa a vote against the Second Amendment like was done for the Sotomayor and Kagan votes.
It's also time to keep the pressure on NRA/ILA to reform their rating and endorsement procedures to include all votes that affect RKBA, not just votes on legislation, and to weight them accordingly. How credible is a grade from and organization who gave a "B" to the man who shepherded Sotomayor and Kagan through their confirmations? These two women will be in the position to gut 2A for the next 40 years! Voting to confirm either one of these women should be enough to cancel out a career of positive votes on 2A affecting legislation.

Absolutely. The best way to disarm Chuckie is to give him "his turn" for as short a period as possible and get it over with. Once he's had the seat, it then becomes someone else's "turn."
The writer is just trying to scare people to vote for the GOP. I'm a Dem and the senate even if he becomes the leader, would never get it passed. I would like to see a anti-semi & auto gun passed, but not likely in my life. People are just to violent and scared, maybe someday we human can progress into an advance being.
Actually, you don't know what you're talking about if you think I'm a Republican apologist--I've gone after Kirk and Coats in my GRE columns, Michael Steele, and just recently Dan Lungren, and have a long history on WarOnGuns when Bush "The vote freedom first president" screwed up, as well as went after McCain, Romney and a host of others...but nice try.
Good rule of thumb, "Freedom Fighter"--check out the terrain before you commit to action.
So which political party passed the Firearms Act of 1934, the Gun Control Act of 1968, added the full-auto "new" machine-gun ban amendment to the Gun Owners Protection Act of 1986, the Assault Weapon and high-capacity magazine ban and the Brady Bill of 1994 ??? Who are we supposed to vote for again ???
The D's like to call the R's "the party of NO". So who keeps telling us "NO guns, NO way, NO how, for NO-body"? I'll give you slower ones a hint. Who said on "60 Minutes", "If I'd had 60 votes in the Senate, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in"?
As for the semi-auto ban you would like to see, ban whatever you like. The 1920's ban against alcohol worked out really well. About as well as the various bans against "recreational drugs" are working. I suspect a semi-auto ban would have about the same effect. California wasn't exactly burried under all of the semi-auto's that their owners turned in after Roberti-Roos passed. After you get the ban passed, how about dropping by my house to discuss it? Be sure to bring a military grade flak jacket with you. Unless of course you really would like my help in your progression to a more advanced state of being.

The first thing that needs to be done is to burn the Democrat Party to the ground at this election. This will serve notice on everyone, both Democrat and Republican, that they need at least the tacit support of the population.
If the NRA is that afraid of Majority Leader Chucky, why are they working so hard to keep Chucky's party in the majority???
Because determining whether a politician supports 2A rights is not quite as simple as looking to see whether they have a D or R next to their name. About the only thing you can determine up front is that the current leadership of the D's is rabidly anti-2A and haveing a D majority, whether or not some of those D's support 2A keeps Pelosi, Reid, Schumer and McCarthy in a position to run the show. It was not always so. Few people remember that JFK was an NRA life member.

DDS,
Physics was a complicated mess, and Einstein simplified it.
E=mc^2. It really is that simple.
Here the rosetta stone for determing what politicians support, based on party affiliation:
D= Communist/Facist Tyranny.
R= Socialist. Bureacratic Tyranny.
T= Average American who wants gov't to stop interfering with our lives.
It really is that simple.
We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. But then, you probably weren't paying attention during Tanya Metaksa's testimony to the House Judiciary Committee on the Brady Bill. Then Rep. Charles Schumer (D -NY) said the GOP was in the NRA's pocket. My Rep., Illiana Ros-Lehtenin (R -Florida), turned to him and offered to compare her NRA "F" rating to his any time he was ready. She has since pulled her grade up to something more respectable, while Chuck U. Schumer, now in the senate is still a solid "F". This is just one example to prove your overly simplistic view leaves something to be desired. I'm sure you can find others if you bother to look.
"Physics was a complicated mess, and Einstein simplified it."
Sofa,
You're going to have to sign up for Remedial Physics 095 I'm afraid. Einstein's General and Special Relativity Theories just stirred up the pot. Plus he missed the boat on quantum effects and the wierd stuff that goes on between sub-atomic particles. You might want to go back to the shallow end of the pool for a while.

Excellent lat ppost, A. Rex. There are some Dems who are as fervently pro-gun and pro 2A, as Wayne LaPierre is. Then, there are Republicans who are as stridently anti 2A as Schumer is.
Remember when some 75 Democrats submitted a petition to Holder, telling him that any attempt to resurrect the AWB, would be DOA? They knew that gun-buying was going through the roof, and they didn't want to pay a political price.
BTW, I did know that John Kennedy was a NRA Life Member - rather surprising, given how stridently anti 2A Swimmer Ted was. But that was before Dallas changed everything, that fateful day of November 22, 1963.
"Ask not what your country can do for you! Ask what you can do for your country!" John F. Kennedy
"There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask, 'Why?' I dream of things that never were, and ask 'Why not?'" -- Robert F. Kennedy
"Why don't we just ask Osama Bin La uh Osama Obama uh Obama whats his, since he won by such a big amount." -- Edward M. Kennedy
Ted "a blonde in every pond" Kennedy was never the sharpest knife in the drawer, but even he knew the old superstition about things happening in threes. I can't really blame him for his anti-gun views. He was like an NFL quarterback who hears footsteps pounding up on his blind side.
One can only wonder what the Democratic Party's position on 2A would be if not for Lee Harvey Oswald and Sirhan Sirhan.

Re. "advanced being"
Most of us already have American Freedom Fighter (are you kidding us?), but it is apparent why you haven't quite made it yet.
Good article David!!!
The last words that a tyrant wants to hear from the people to his policies is “So What”
David everyday I keep hearing the apologist claim we have to be afraid of the Big Bad Wolf.
I hear a lot of excuses but in the end OUR RIGHTS will be decide by us!
The founding father realized they had to hang together or they would hang separately.
When we realize that we win!
P.S. I’m not talking about joining and paying dues to some group
I forgot to add that if gun control is passed gun owners that refuse to follow the new laws will be demonized and called every name in the book.
We have to be smart enough to look past these wild claims of racism, child abuse and terrorism.
Gun owners will never get an honest break from the main stream media.
Remember WACO, the people of WACO were the victims but the media turned them into the villains.
if i was a democrat, i would promise you every gun right you wanted but take your 1A incrementally (hate speech, etc.), go after and decimate every other of your conservative positions, then as I left office hand the baton to a Bloomberg, Feinstein, Schumer, Herzog, Kirk, etc. to go after your precious last bastion, The 2A. I promised you I'd never touch your guns.
