I just have time for a quick post today. Tradition in my home is that we host the dinner, and we're expecting a full house in a few hours.
I love this day.
My wish for those of you who come here regularly and support these humble efforts is that you have and appreciate the same important blessings I do: Loved ones to be thankful for.
Here's my traditional Thanksgiving Day offering for readers of WarOnGuns and this column:
------------
Speaking of evil butterballs...
In yesterday's column, I mentioned filing a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain a copy of a memo in which Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano allegedly classified opponents of TSA heavy-handedness as "domestic extremist[s]." Absent a copy of the actual administrative directive, there are legtimate doubts about it.
Tomorrow morning, the letter posted in the sidebar slide show will be sent out via certified mail. DHS can either reject the FOIA request saying the memo I'm seeking does not exist, reject it because they deem the memo classified, or release it, either in full or with portions redacted. I will share whatever response I get when I get it.

Not "tunis" - thanks - I hate testing on a cell phone !

Have a wonderful get-together today, David, and thanks from me.
Good job on the FOIA. I'd make another version with the broadest possible description, asking for "any and all documents pertaining to or discussing policies or possible policies and/or responses to complaints and/or protests of the full-body screening systems and/or enhanced pat-down inspections."
Send both.
OR--Thanks--not sure I'd be equipped or that I'm the right guy to get into the wider issue. It would really take me far afield of the gun rights niche I focus on and would require that I take time away from the dozens of issues I'm already juggling and sideline those efforts. If they sent me that volume of documents, I'm not sure I'd have the time to go through them all, the knowledge to analyze them properly and the appropriate forum to give them the broader attention they'd merit. Let me see where this leads first, and if it looks like pulling other threads will be productive, I'll revisit your suggestion. Sorry, but the reality of being only one person with limited resources who can only do so much is something I struggle with every day.
Certainly understand; I'm no longer in that business but if perchance you get lucky and get buried in documents (request electronic versions if they exist), post a note and I'll get back to you privately -- I still know some investigative reporters who would love to dig into something like this.
Realistically, I'd expect they will jump you through repeated hoops in the hope you wear out. Keep us posted.
To the list of things we all should be thankful for, I would like to add my thanks to The Examiner, David Codrea, Howard Nemerov Dave Workman, John Longnecker, and all the other Gun Rights Examiners for setting up a place where we can post information and exchange views on this important topic. In the process, i suspect we have all become better citizens and perhaps even learned something. I know I have. Thanks again , Folks.
