Grassley urges citizens to call reps about 'Project Gunwalker' on Gun Talk Radio

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee who has been leading efforts to investigate “Project Gunwalker”* allegations, appeared on Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Radio show on Sunday.

From the show summary:

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has written an article for The State Column about the allegations from the ATF whistleblowers on “Project Gunrunner”, and has introduced legislation, Senate Bill 586, to protect whistleblowers, like the ATF agents, from retribution.

Grassley’s column is here, and his bill can be read here.

Appearing in archived program Guntalk 2011-04-24 Part A at about the halfway mark in the media player appearing on the show’s website, Grassley gives an update on his efforts as well as those of Rep. Darrell Issa of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.  Explaining that his Senate Judiciary Committee powers to issue subpoenas are stymied due to Democrat control of the committee, Grassley informed Gresham’s audience he is working closely with Chairman Issa, who does have the subpoena powers to require information from those stonewalling at ATF and the Department of Justice.

“Frankly,” Gresham told Grassley, “It’s time for the head of ATF to either get fired or to resign.”

When asked what “we” can do, Grassley answered “Everybody that’s listening to your station, let your own individual congressman and senators know that they want their congressman and senators asking these same questions and supporting Congressman Issa and Senator Grassley.”

And kudos to Tom Gresham for yet another informative and insightful program--he's been one of the consistent leaders in getting the "Gunwalker" story out to radio audiences.  If you’re not a regular Gun Talk listener, it’s your loss.

*Note to newcomers to this story: “Project Gunrunner” is the name ATF assigned to its Southwest Border Initiative to interdict gun smuggling to Mexico. “Project Gunwalker” is the name I assigned to the scandal after allegations by agents that monitored guns were allowed to fall into criminal hands on both sides of the border through a surveillance process termed “walking” surfaced.
