The experts told us not to worry.
They said Obama would be too tied up in his first term to worry about guns.
They said gun control is too hot button of an issue, and that democrat legislators would shy away from a repeat of mistakes that cost them past elections.
They told us we have enough "pro gun democrats" so that November resulted in "no net loss" for gun owners.
A few lonely voices wondered aloud if this could be true.
We knew, despite a campaign of misdirection that Obama was a committed gunhater.
We believed him when he said he wanted to ban semiautos.
We warned people to no avail against confirming Eric Holder as attorney general, and were bewildered why those most able to help with that battle remained watching from the hilltop rather than engaged on the field.
We warned that "pro gun democrats" were unlikely to buck their party leadership--and suffer the repercussions, the loss of choice assignments, the cutting off of spoils to bring the folks back home...
We even pointed it out when we saw some turn.
And all the while, we were hoping we were wrong. Because that would mean our fears were groundless, and what we really wanted was not so much to be right as to be left alone.
But it doesn't look like we were wrong:

But wait--don't lose hope. The expert voices may yet prove right.
This could be an attorney general speaking out of turn. This could be wishful thinking on the part of the media, an attempt to get the ball rolling, a trial balloon for public opinion...
We may yet find the political will to turn this back, to discourage it from coming up, to defeat it if it doesn't, or to challenge it if it passes...
Hey, he didn't specifically say it would happen this term, did he...?
Or such reasoning may just be whistling past the graveyard. Because say what you will about the guy, Obama continues to wow the masses.
Perhaps most gun owners, realizing what apathy and excuse-making have bought them, haven't got much to turn to besides denial. Besides--they won't come for our sporting arms.
Yet.
Hang on. This ride is going to get bumpy.

Ohio gun lawsuit
Buckeye Firearms Foundation, Inc., an Ohio not-for profit foundation, filed a lawsuit today in the Common Pleas Court of Cuyahoga County, Ohio seeking a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction to stop the City of Cleveland from prosecuting law-abiding gun owners under local ordinances that restrict gun ownership and concealed carry (CCW). The lawsuit also asks the Court to declare 20 different local ordinances unconstitutional on the grounds of state preemption of firearm laws.

How dare you even hint that the NRA should have blown thier political capital keeping him out of the AG spot, it's soooooo MUCH easier to try to shoot down EACH and EVERY thing he is planning on doing...how's the political capital looking now?
I will not obey any new gun bans. They can have their machine guns for now. My life is worth more than some arbitrary number of rounds. Eric Holder is treasonous scum, and needs to be tarred and feathered.
But I was told over and over and over that Obama was not coming after my guns. Did he lie or was it misreported?
Right after Obama was elected, I predicted a new AWB would either be passed, or well on its way to passing, within 6 months. Here I was starting to think I was going to be wrong!
To attack lawful American's Constitutional rights because the federal government refused to do its Constitutional duties and one of them being to protect our borders is an illegal act. Passing such a law is a criminal act short of closing down the border.
Anyone want to bet the NRA will keep 10/22's off the list so they will go around bragging they did their job. So we need to send LaPuke more money so he can enjoy this coming summer at the country club.
If it's a war they want, let them declare one. Maybe they just did.
We already have a law regulating machine guns. What do we need another one for? We need to question our representatives as to the need for another "Assault Weapons Ban". They need to justify it. What they should call it is the "Semi-automatic Weapons Ban". Call it by it's true name.
Lets not forget the "cop killer bullets" they are also going after. You can bet your bottom dollar that big powerful bore bolt actions are going to fall into this. Of course we need to get some money to the NRA because it almost spring and LaPuke is going to need some cash for green fees.
David, can you dig up the Justice Department study done a few years back that found the AWB DID NOT reduce crime in ANY aspect? It was only maybe 4-5 years ago.
It isn't going to end until they impose a complete ban on all gun rights and a repeal of the 2nd amendment. Like you said David, it is going to be a bumpy ride.

W T F (your username is considered "inappropriate language": Well, there are a few options. You could:
1) Cower in fear, hoping the brown shirts don't find you.
2) Jump back on the "Hope" and "Change" bandwagon, and just hope the "relocation centers" don't turn into "death camps"
3) Realize it's all hopeless, and take your own life (not my suggestion, life is too precious to give it away)
4) Pick up a gun, learn to shoot, and stand with those that love liberty as much as they love their families and their lives and be willing (not that you WILL have to) to give your life to protect freedom, liberty, and the lives of your fellow man.

O and by the way. The insinuation that the Mexicans are getting their sophisticated weapons from the US is pure B.S. when was the last time you walked into a Wal-Mart or Kmart and purchased an Automatic weapon? How about a hand grenade?? Never you say! That's because it requires special permits and licenses from the Gov't and the BATFE to buy Fully Automatic Firearms and when you do receive your permit to own one they are extremely expensive costing tens of thousands of dollars to acquire, and hand grenades are completely illegal to own outside of the Military. If the Mexican Cartels are obtaining any type of firearms from the US, they are not obtaining them from legal sources as you or I would, they are obtaining them illegally from criminal sources just like our criminals do. This only proves when you outlaw firearms only the outlaws will have them.
And for those of you sitting on your duffs bashing the NRA, what was the last thing you accomplished in the war against our freedoms? What was the last lawsuit you supported? When was the last time you were in Washington lobbying for our rights and liberties? Not recently I suspect.
Agree to a point, GO. I hope you don't consider criticism of NRA management actions to be bashing. Because they let Holder waltz in without a fight, as I documented in this column probably a dozen times.
No your correct there! they (the NRA) did let him waltz with little to token resistance at best. But over all I do think that without the NRA we'd be much worse off than we are now. I fear what else these yoyo's in DC have waiting in the wings for us. 2010 & 2012 can't get here fast enough for me!
As a "patriot", American's KNOW the law and know that "gun reform" is the last item on the agenda, which wouldn't get dealt with for the next 20/30 years, so all this "fear" mongering yet again about "our rights" being taken away by a "socialist" is just a sick attempt to continue wasting time on something that isn't as important as paying for the mistakes of the "highly educated political thieves".
However, should this agenda become more in our face, on any level, well all bets are off. I will not allow anyone to take my guns!

The choice is ours
While the world is arming itself our elected officials seem to want us to be defenseless against those who would like to see the united States become a third world nation! If history has taught us anything it is that freedom always comes with a heavy price tag, too many people have died for the freedom we enjoy in America, we can’t let it slip through our fingers now when the world is at a critical juncture we must fight to keep our constitutional rights in tact the way our forefathers meant them to be. The men who crafted and created the constitution knew first hand how easy it is to loose your rights as a human being if you are not willing to fight for the right to be free! ALL THAT IS NEEDED FOR EVIL TO PREVAIL IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING!!!
I’M SURE NONE OF US HAVE FORGOTTEN 9 11, THOSE PEOPLE ARE STILL OUT THERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE. Guns are not the problem, people are.
If I want to kill you I can do so with a shovel, or a 10 cent bic pen or any one of a thousand other things. Bad people will always have guns and if we allow the government to take away our right to carry and protect ourselves and our loved ones we will open the door to a horror none of us want to experience. The wolves and the buzzards of the world will swoop down upon us without mercy not to mention the criminal element that already lives in America just waiting for us to become defenseless.
The only way to remain free is to WALK SOFTLY AND CARRY A BIG STICK!
This I know for a fact, THOSE WHO FORGET HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT!!! THE HITLERS OF THE WORLD WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US, WE CAN NEVER LET OUR GUARD DOWN NOT EVEN FOR A MINUTE. This is a time for all of us who cherish freedom to unite for the protection of our rights, our freedom, and our very way of life.
