Cites allegations, reminds of legal protection for whistleblowers
Mike Vanderboegh at Sipsey Street Irregulars has posted copies of two letters from Sen. Charles Grassley to Acting Director Ken Melson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Per Vanderboegh:
A Sipsey Street Exclusive: Senator Grassley is on the Project Gunwalker scandal case -- big time. These came in over the electronic transom this morning. To all you lurking "news media" types -- if this ain't enough to get you covering this scandal, I don't know what will.
The first letter, dated Jan. 27, expresses "serious concerns" about Project Gunrunner, and notes allegations about the slaying of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry "were accompanied by detailed documentation which appears to lend credibility to the claims and partially corroborates them."
The second letter, dated Jan. 31, copies Attorney General Eric Holder, and reminds acting director Melson that ATF management must respect whistleblower protections and that "obstructing a Congressional investigation is a crime."
I have included jpg files of the letters in the sidebar slideshow, and PDF files on Scribd:
This development continues to corroborate information Vanderboegh and I have brought to light since the beginning of this month that has been ignored by the mainstream press. Representatives of the media: You have no more excuses not to report on this.

NOW you're talking, Senator Grassley!
You are correct, Senator Grassley is talking. That is the nature of a Senator, they constantly talk. The problem is action. There has been little action in the past and this will also pass into oblivion with no meaningful action having bean taken.
I applaud David and Mike's drive to get this before the Senate. It' s just unfortunate that the Senate is as corrupt as the ATF.
Without Mike, David and a lot of other folks on the internet, nobody would ever have heard a word of this.
Well done! And thank you.
Wonderful!!! - Looks like this just may get off dead center thanks to you and Mike. No more Waco Rules!

Is it just me and my computer or is there a problem with the Jan 31 letter link? I can get the first one, but not the second one.
The 31st link is broken for me also.
Works now--sorry--was in a hurry to get this out and the pub tool occasionally inserts an extra "http" into some, but not all urls...just tested it, should work now.
Can't get the Jan 31 letter either.
Read the 1/31 letter from the link at Sipsey Street.
But will BATFE bother to honor the request or the reminder? Or will they just ignore this? After all, what can Senator Grassley REALLY do if BATFE and Holder and The One tell him to pound sand?
If the Pulitzer organization wasn't made up of leftist shills, David would win the big prize this year.
If they refuse to comply, than the committee subpoenas. If they continue to refuse it brings more heat. There are segments of the media that will be drawn in if this turns into an executive vs legislative branch brawl. They won't be able to help themselves.

Yeah, the media will have to be dragged, but what about NRA? Will they tell their members and promote these articles on their website? What are the chances someone like Cam E will invite DC or MV on his show?
Thanks for bringing more light to this subject David. It will be interesting to see what happens now.

A positive development, indeed, but
"Constant Vigilance!!"
That first letter requests a briefing no later than Feb 3. It appears from the content of the second letter that ATF is being less than forthcoming. I find it quite interesting that Senator Grassley's office is going out of their way to make sure that we are aware they are brandishing the hammer at ATF management.
This could all still go away without a trace, though. Firing off a few more letters and phone calls to your congers-critters certainly can't hurt. And those letters are just the thing to include.
Got something to say?
