Aaron Zelman, rest in peace

A death notice on JS Online brings us sorrowful tidings:

Zelman, Aaron S. December 21, 2010, age 64 years, of Erin, WI. Beloved husband of Nancy Zelman (nee Soderlund). Dear father of Erik and Jeremy Zelman. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Funeral services 11:00 AM Friday, December 24, 2010 at Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, 2909 W. Mequon Rd., Mequon. Memorials to JPFO, P.O. Box 270143, Hartford, WI 53027 or Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue are appreciated.

I just received this sad news from Mama Liberty of The Price of Liberty, who in turn learned of this from “Living Freedom” by Claire Wolfe.

I had the great privilege of working with Aaron over the past several years, including corresponding and speaking on the telephone, and was pleased to do what I could to help promote the great and innovative work of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.

We have lost a giant.  The sadness I feel is gripping.

Goodbye, my friend.  What an honor it was to know you. I am so grateful for the work you did on behalf of freedom, and for the legacy you leave behind.

May we be worthy of it.

I was greatly privileged to know Aaron for many years, though I never met him in person. His loss diminishes us all in so many ways.

Surely we must reach and teach the children... Only then can this loss be countered with a net gain for life and liberty.

I worked with Aaron for ten years, producing two novels and some uncounted number of articles and columns at his direction. He probably saved my career, and may have been the only truly great man I have ever known. What we will do without him, I can't imagine, but he would expect from us the best of which we're capable.

I spoke with him on the phone once or twice, and I have followed JPFO since I was aware of it. RIP, my friend! We'll miss your strong voice in the freedom movement!

I also had the privilege of working with Aaron on several projects and of writing for JPFO, and truly this is a great loss. He was a man of character and principle, and above all, a man who shouldered far more than his share of the burden in the long struggle for liberty. There is no way the rest of us can possibly take up the slack after his passing, but we must do our best.

So sad that we can count on one hand the number of people in the liberty movement who make a critical difference in this fight. Aaron was one of those few. He was a tireless and fearless champion of freedom, and foe to all forms of oppression and tyranny.

The Rhodes family, and all of Oath Keepers, extend our condolences to his family and friends.

It is a sad day. Aaron, we will miss your strong defense of the Second Amendment and the tenacity with which you worked to preserve our rights. The Nevada State Rifle & Pistol Association sends our condolences to the Zelman family and the JPFO family. Aaron brought many of us together and led the way. Rest in Peace, our friend.

Aaron was an absolutely indispensable thorn in the side of the liberal gun-grabbing Jews who mouth the mantra "Never Again," but are petrified of comprehending its logical corollaries and acting upon them. I hope someone else will stand up to continue his work.

I believe The Western Missouri Shooters Alliance may have held the first theater showing of "No Guns For Jews". It was riveting, as was all of JPFO's films. I was honored to have spoken with Mr. Zelman on the phone, though I never met him in person. He, and his organization were of such help to grassroots 2nd Amendment organizations. He will be very missed. He has worked so hard, and hopefully is enjoying his rest & peace. Though I can't help but wonder if he is lining up John Wayne & Charlton Heston already for a film.

This was someone who really, REALLY made a difference.

I can say without reservation that during my many years of fighting gun-grabbing leftists, Aaron Zelman and his comrades were on many occasions the only reason I was not ashamed of being a Jew.

Valkyries, conduct this valiant warrior to Valhalla.

We have lost a good man.

I had the privilege of talking to Aaron many times over the years and helped him in a project to promote Innocents Betrayed.

Rest in Peace Aaron, we will miss you.

  • I am very saddened by this news. Aaron and I were friends, and he was one of the first to connect disarmament and genocide.

May he rest in peace knowing that he does leave a legacy that some, like Dave Kopel, Paul Gallant, and Joanne Eisen, will continue.

    I will miss him.

Aaron and JPFO have been invaluable assets the past 20 years in the struggle to remind America that the Second Amendment is as much a civil right as any of the other rights, freedoms, liberties and protections in our Bill of Rights.

Birth rights that our generation has been entrusted to protect and pass along to our heirs by the generations that did so for us.

While many have diminished and denigrated the term civil rights activist by their self serving agitation, Aaron Zelman has earned the title in the truest and most noble sense of the term.

He has struggled to restore and preserve the rights, freedoms and liberties of all those living and yet to be born who inherit the world he leaves behind.

I met Aaron years ago and always respected him for his unfailing courage in fighting the culture wars. He was a loud and clear voice for the oppressed and disenfranchised, and an unapologetic warrior for the natural right of self defense. May he rest in peace.

Rest in Peace, Aaron. Grampa Jack and his videos have turned the thoughts of many. I have always been happy to point some of my liberal Jewish relatives to the JPFO for enlightenment. He is now with his colleagues Neal Knox, Jeff Cooper and others.
