Viviane Vives majored in journalism and advertising at the University of Barcelona, and in film and television at New York University. For the last 10 years, Viviane and her husband M. J. Neal (AIA) have headed the architecture firm and interdisciplinary studio M. J. Neal Architects and Barcelona Films. A winner of numerous awards, M. J. Neal Architects was one of the first firms in Texas to use experimental sustainable construction systems. MJ Neal was on the advisory committee for Austin's Green Builder Program at its inception, and was a Sustainable Building Coalition charter member. The firm is committed to sustainable design solutions as a rule of practice, and it always has been.
