UPS plane crash in Dubai kills two crew members. The 747-400 aircraft was part of United Parcel Service's cargo fleet and crashed at approximately 8pm on Friday near the Dubai airport in the United Arab Emirates. The plane was headed for a UPS hub in Cologne, Germany, according to company spokeswoman Kristen Petrella.
News of the UPS crash been a trending topic on Google, with many searching for further information on the crew members who were killed.
CNN reports that United Parcel Service's airline and international operations manager, Bob Lekites, said in a statement, "Our thoughts go out to the crewmembers involved in the incident and their families ...We will not speculate about the cause. Until then, we ask for your patience in this difficult time."
MSNBC reports: The United Arab Emirates civil aviation authority said the bodies of the two crew members on board were recovered. An Associated Press photographer saw smoke rising from the UPS plane crash site, which was shielded from the highway by walls.

These Pilots were trying to return N571 to DXB after a MAYDAY call.. They heroiclly dumped fuel to lessen the explosion upon impact, they steered the a/c out of the way from innocent bystandards on the ground...w/out even a chance to call thier own families to say a last "I love you "or "good bye". Those crew members were someones, children, parents, siblings, friends and co-workers....

I am an airline pilot and I live in the Silicon Oasis Villas, about 1 mile from the crash site. The airplane flew over my villa at about 1000 feet. One thing I can tell you is that the noise from the engines was incredible. It sounded as though it was in my living room. By the time I got to the front door the airplane was already down. I do think they had time to jettison fuel because I was directly in the flight path, one of my cars was parked outside and it has no jet fuel on it this morning.
In this area, there are 1400 houses and several apartment buildings up ato 12-15 floors. The pilots seemed to fly directly over the houses towards the open desert, through a gap in the apartment buildings and attemped to put the plane down in the desert.
Unfortunately in this area the desert is not flat but very hilly. Also, the crash site is on an old army base that was used to train tank drivers in hilly conditions.
As an American in Dubai, this hits close to home. Out thoughts and prayers to the families of the crew, and all of UPS. A sad day indeed.
