If you have a tee time, membership, or plans for a golf course wedding at The Georgetown Club, a private golf course on the North Shore of Massachusetts, you’re out of luck.

Principal owner Peter Wojtkun filed for bankruptcy on September 11, two months after the club began accepting public play in a failed attempt to boost revenue, according to North Shore Golf magazine. Don’t try calling the club; it’s closed.

General manager Dan Cammarata’s phone extension is “no longer in service,” according to the computerized receptionist on the other end. And good luck with that September wedding you’ve been planning.

“If you have an event booked with us,” says a recorded human voice on the function department line, “a function manager will contact you as soon as more information becomes available to us.”

In debt. Some $6 million in debt to Sovereign Bank and $2 million in arrears to a second party, Wojtkun hopes to reorganize his three holding companies -- Georgetown Golf Club Inc., New England Golf Club Inc., and Georgetown Links LLC -- according to North Shore Golf.

Memberships up. Boston golfers concerned about their private memberships may be relieved to know that at least three clubs within Georgetown’s vicinity are doing fine. A membership incentive program at Renaissance Golf Club has been successful for the Haverhill, MA, club, says club manager Michael Robichaud.

“We have another 10 to 15 strong prospects,” says Robichaud, who declines to comment about Georgetown.

Andover Country Club is in good shape as well, according to club manager Dan Muccio. The club did not increase dues in 2009, which the club’s 360 members appreciated, says Muccio, who invites Georgetown employees to look him up if they need jobs.

“Georgetown is a fine facility and I hope someone who does buy it can run it well,” Muccio says.

Andover's Indian Ridge Country Club is another course with good numbers. The 45-year-old club boasts of a membership that "is as strong and healthy as it has ever been," says general manager Cheri Nolan. "Our members know that we operate a high-quality private golf club with fantastic golf and function facilities at a price that is the most reasonable of any club in the area."

this owner is known for being a litigious bully. Talk to the police department, talk to the town department -- he's been accused of drawing easement lines on town documents to his benefit. He's been held in contempt of court for destroying private property. This man has no boundaries. Brides? How about every citizen, vendor, golfer, friend, etc in the town? They've been had for years.
