(Oct. 12, 2009) Remember that diamond ring from Cartier everyone has been talking about? You know -- the one die hard bachelor George Clooney bought for his new girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis? Well, the Italian news is reporting favorably on the couple and saying the ring is not just a promise ring. The celebrity couple is rumored to be officially engaged and already living as man and wife in the local Italian community of Lake Como, and MTV's celebrity crush news seems to confirm that Canalis has agreed to live with Clooney in his California home when he's out of her native country of Italy.

GEORGE CLOONEY TO WED ITALIAN BEAUTY? MAYBE
Hearts of single women worldwide (and gay men) might be crushed to hear the news that actor George Clooney is off the market, but local Italian media and neighbors of the pair seem to think an engagement is wonderful news.
Gossip sources like PEOPLE magazine and E! entertainment news have reported that the couple both been staying at Clooney's home on the shores of Lake Como since they began dating in the summer of this year [2009].
Clooney brought Canalis out on the red carpet at the Venice film festival, and the couple worked together pleasing the crowd by posing for a variety of photos. Throughout the night, George coaxed the younger bella by whispering quiet and helpful directions into her ear all night, guiding her gently through the process of dealing with so many press sources represented that were eager to capture the couple together and in the spotlight.
Early this week Clooney gave Canalis a ring -- said to be a promise ring, rather than an open proposal of marriage. However, with local sources chatting about the couple, it seems as if the pair are nearly married in the eyes of the Italian press already.
With new fall movies like "Up in the Air" and the "Men who Stare at Goats" coming out, if Clooney IS in fact engaged the timing is legendary.

Even the famous MTV channel wonders if the news is true that George and "Eli" are engaged. [Clooney's girlfriend works for the Italian version of the cable music channel. On October 9th, their version of a celebrity blog site posted the following questions and history of Clooney's personal dating history and past relationships:

According to In Touch, Clooney recently bought his girlfriend, Italian TV personality Elisabetta Canalis, a diamond ring to show off his commitment. “It's not an engagement ring — but it is a sign they're getting serious," reports the mag. At the time of his relationship with waitress Sarah Larson, Clooney said he would “never marry.” Oh, have the tides changed! This bling comes not long after the duo moved in together into his California home.
It’s been sixteen years since Clooney ended a tumultuous marriage with Talia Balsam and many people assumed the man about town would never tie the knot again. He’s had one, two, possibly even three girlfriends at a time in recent years and he’s been fairly modest when asked about his relationships with women. In early 2009 there was speculation that he was indeed dating yet another waitress Lucy Wolvert as well as Fatima Bhutto, the granddaughter of a former Pakistan Prime Minister.

George Clooney was welcomed by excited fans and onlookers as he arrived in Sulmona, Abruzzo with his new fiancée, the Italian showgirl, Canalis...
He was there to film some scenes of an upcoming film currently titled "The American", which is directed by Anton Corbjin and will also star Violante Placido, Paolo Bonacelli and Tekla Reuten.
Clooney was very friendly with everyone and stayed around to chat with fans and sign autographs.
While Clooney was filming Canalis went to buy some fresh fish from a local shop, discussing ways of cooking it with the shop-keeper.
The inevitable comments of onlookers is that the two seemed to have already entered a married life style of living and a wedding in December looks all the more probable.
