Continuing the today's trend of smartphone software updates, Samsung Fascinate owners will be pleased to know that Verizon has started pushing out an OTA update for the device that should correct some of the bugs that we saw when that initial bug list leaked out.
Notice the wording there, should, not will.
Unfortunately, as of right now, it’s unknown whether or not this update is going to solve those nasty GPS issues that have been affecting Galaxy S phones since launch. However, it’s a good sign that AT&T’s OTA update for their Samsung Captivate seems to have at least improved GPS quality so hopefully Verizon has done the same.
Here is the stuff that has been confirmed to be on board the software:
· Instant notification of Visual Voice Mail in the messaging bar.
· Improved sync between phone and e-mail accounts.
· Prompt notification when switching to airplane mode.
· Faster switching from 3G to 1x RTT.
· Search phone while on a call.
· Improved Exchange password alerts.
· No Service audio alert removed.
It’s no Froyo, but it should definitely please those of you in SF with a Fascinate. If you don’t feel like waiting around for it to show up OTA, you can always manually update it by performing these steps on your phone:
Settings -> About phone -> System updates
Enjoy.
