Google versus Apple should be interesting.
Awhile back you may have read an article on here that spoke about how Google Voice was going to strike fear into the hearts of phone carriers.
That was wishful thinking.
Yes, Apple has rejected the Google Voice application that was submitted to them six weeks ago for use with the iPhone. This news comes only a week after it was announced that the Google Voice app would be coming to BlackBerry’s and Android based smartphones.
Here is what a Google spokesman told Tech Crunch via Gizmodo:
"We work hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users - for example, by taking advantage of advances in mobile browsers."
So now it’s a matter of why it was rejected and all fingers are now being pointed at the overlord of the iPhone, AT&T.
Surprising?
The suspicion surrounding AT&T’s involvement is because of probable displeasure over the Google Voice app’s features. It makes adding additional phone numbers useless, allows for free text messaging, offers cheap international call prices on top of a whole load of other features that you can find here.
So it’s no surprise that AT&T has probably been whispering in Apple’s ear to do away with the application. It’s bad for business.
However, according to Gizmodo, Google is probably going to release it as a web application much like they did recently with Google Latitude.
A small victory amidst this sad and frustrating news.

Although I LOVE my Iphone, I really really despise Apple and AT&T business practices. I paid $560 for the phone, it is mine, I want to install what I want, not what they will allow me. I feel horrible for the programers that spend so much time, only to be denied by Apple, they have no clear cut review process.. There is a good chance Apple/AT&T will shoot themselves in the foot.
Google and Apple need to merge and take over the entire world.
yes web app the way to go, monopoly is not right
here is a sample of another web app nightlifeapp.com coming soon
there's absolutely no reason in the world for Apple to renew their exclusivity agreement with AT&T, and if they do, yeah, the foot will have no toes left... they must have lacked confidence in the first place in making the agreement. doubt that's the case now.
