A comment is being circulated on Facebook complaining that the site has not only allowed Islam-critical pages like "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" to thrive but has also removed four major Muslim Facebook pages with a total of about 2.5 million members. This "chain email" is thus claiming that Facebook has taken a dramatic anti-Islam stance, and the comment is further demanding that the site restore the Islamic pages, make it illegal to criticize Islam, and remove all FB pages that are critical of Islam. In other words, it is demanding that Facebook follow Islamic or sharia law.
While the comment claims that these Islamic pages were not anti-infidel in sentiment, its demands certainly are, and they belie any possibly "peaceful" notion of why these pages should be allowed back on Facebook.
Supporters of free speech are calling for this Islamist comment be searched out on FB and flagged in a show of support for Facebook's creators not to kowtow to censorship and to demonstrate that the non-Muslim world will not be subjugated under Islamic or sharia law.

Although you have attended the world's best communication skills courses you have been most successful in growing great hatred and hostility between you and Muslims around the world, but seriously this time you have caused an almost unrepairable damage.
Only a few weeks after your irresponsible behavior during the Everybody Draw Mohammed Day events you most aggressively removed four of the largest Islamic Facebook Pages of total fans/likes over 2.5 million Facebook members. That happened on the morning of Thursday 8th July, 2010.
These four Facebook pages were totally peaceful and free of any hate speech, but you removed it ignoring the feelings of more than 2.5 Million Facebook Muslims and disrespecting over 1.5 Billion Muslims worldwide.
And now since that is what it had come down to you, with your irresponsibility and fake preach of freedom of speech, have left us no other choice other than permanently boycotting Facebook. And now we are giving you a 2 weeks notice - ending at midnight of 21st July, 2010 - to fulfill our demands or else we will leave Facebook....
Our demands are:
1- Reactivating the four pages that have been disabled
2- Adding a Facebook Term that illegalizes disrespecting Islamic religious symbols
3- Disabling any Facebook Page, Group, or Event that shows direct or indirect disrespect towards Islamic religious symbols

It should be law in western countries to thoroughly criticize Islam, say, 5 times a day. Islam must be criticized and ridiculed into reformation for it's constant crimes against humanity and quest for world domination.
There is simply too much at stake. I don't want my kids forced to convert to Islam - I don't ever want my kids to have to deal with Islam EVER, PERIOD.

I do agree that there has been some discrimination against the Muslim pages. However, I disagree with points two and three that no criticism of Islam should be allowed. In a free society all religions are open to criticism and even satire. If Muslims don't like it then they shouldn't use fb, and they shgould leave the United State.
Disagree with Acharya that Muslims are the only parties trying to take over the globe. I believe Muslims are being targeted by others and that's why they've become radicalized.

Thank you. I have never made such a statement. Many different groups, religions and cults have been interested in global hegemony over the past many centuries.

@Jim - there has been far less discrimination against Muslim pages than non-muslim users AND pages. You see the Muslims make lists and fraudulently mass report pages, groups, and profiles to have them torn down. And i do mean FRAUDULENTLY.
I lost my facebook page for posting some thing that they did not like. I was not posting porn, kiddie porn or anything even remotely close to that crap.. This is long overdue on Facebooks part. The muslims mass report anything that they do not like. When I say mass report, they turn a million hard core muslims to report one page that they do not like that disagrees with islamic doctrine. Facebook has been looking at numbers of reports, but not WHAT they are reporting. This is a US company, on US soil being turned into an islamic instrument to enforce sharia law. This must stop!

I agree with you Sassy! Their laws state that no one is to criticize islam, especially non-muslims, and that death is a punishment for doing so. They have enjoyed 1400 years of making sure that no one criticizes islam and it still goes on in many countries. Their prophet had people killed for doing so - an old man over 100 years old and a young woman still breast feeding her baby were two that he had killed. This is the type of man that they think is a perfect man that they try to emulate. We are not even muslims and they think that everyone is to submit to their junky laws, or die.
I have been on Facebook where people criticize islam and they turn around and have threatened people and also harassed them by trying to get them banned just for telling what is in those texts of islam that they call 'holy'. There is nothing holy about islam. It is an ideology that wraps the aura of holiness around some very atrocious behaviors. Holy deception, or taqiyya, is one of hose bad behaviors. Terror, and killing, are the worst but not all do that. But in islam muslims do support those who do those things via zakat, or what we know as muslim charity. In Sharia laws at least a part of zakat is to support those violent jihadists and of couse, they use taqiyya to tell us that it is not so - but it is in black and white in their laws (H8.17).

This is the kind of thing that muslims just freely do - threaten and bully people. They do it with suing people, terrorizing them, etc. Basically according to sharia - whatever advances islam is a good and holy thing. Whatever inhibits it is bad and evil. I don't think it's too much to ask for:
1) religious tolerance; It's one thing to exercise free speech and another to use it to disrespect another religion. Even I'm one for joking around, even about other religions, but the fine line is there and it has to be carefully tread. To announce a "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day" blatantly crosses that line.
2) a reason why these pages were taken down. If you are going to post about Muslims complaining about disabled Facebook groups, the least you could do is find out why they were taken down in the first place... preferably, getting from someone at Facebook. You conveniently paint the picture that Muslims are complaining over nothing and, furthermore, imposing "Sharia law".
All I see are a bunch of apathetic losers who want an excuse to hate on other religions... and it's not because they don't believe in a higher power, but because they are weak-minded, pitiful people who can't rise above the hurt organised religion had put upon them.

Depends on why they were removed. I've noticed a trend that theist use. If they don't like something, it's "hate speech". When someone criticises them, it's "hate speech". When they call for submission of unbelievers, death to infidels, etc, it's suddenly "free speech".

No. Respect must be earned. It is not innate, and nothing and noone is above criticism. Once they start respecting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, then they can talk about respect.

Muslims are also largely responsible for the flowering of the Kaballah in 12th to 14th Century Spain, which under Muslim rule was a tolerant and peaceful place. As soon as the Christians came back in all of that was crushed. For me the problem is Fundamentalism in general, not any particular religious faith. These faith traditions all have positive aspects and negative (primarily Fundamentalist) aspects.
How about an equal exchange?: FB can adopt sharia law, if muslim countries around the world agree to adopt secular American law and drop sharia. That seems fair.

Here's another strategy: if you don't want your religion mocked, ridiculed, or critized, adopt positions and beliefs that are unmockable, not ridiculous and/or hypocritical. Given that religions are merely exercises in imagination, this is as easy as changing your mind.

Ok realistically last I checked FB is an US based company, meaning the only law it need adhere to is US law... IE freedom of speech. Which does infact include speech criticizing islam and muslims, sorry you don't get special treatment just because YOU happen to think your religion deserves it. You have the right to speak out against people criticizing your faith, you do not have the right to attempt to force them into silence.
