This may well have been the most anti-Israel speech before the UN I have ever heard from a sitting President in my lifetime. Mr. Obama no longer feels the need to hide his true feelings or intentions.
Now that he is in office, he has dropped the charade and is now acting out his long held desire to change America into his socialist idea of what we should be.
Just for those who don't know-
Genesis 15:18 declares, "To your descendants [Abraham's] I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates." God later confirms this promise to Abraham's son Isaac, and Isaac's son Jacob (whose name was later changed to Israel). When the Israelites were about to invade the Promised Land, God reiterated the land promise, as recorded in Joshua 1:4, "Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates — all the Hittite country — to the Great Sea on the west."
With Genesis 15:18 and Joshua 1:4 in mind, the land God gave to Israel included everything from the Nile river in Egypt to Lebanon (North to South) and everything from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (West to East). So, what land has God stated belongs to Israel? All of the land modern Israel currently possesses, plus all of the land of the Palestinians (the West Bank and Gaza), plus some of Egypt and Syria, plus all of Jordan, plus some of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Israel currently possesses only a fraction of the land God has promised.

I hate to dignify such an ignorant column with a reply, but here goes: Obama is a politician. the nation of Israel is a political entity. What Obama does or says to or about them has absolutely nothing to do with Christians or the Bible.
In Matthew 23:38, Jesus said to the Jewish people, "Your house is abandoned to you." a couple days later, at his death, the curtain dividing the Holy from the Most Holy split from top to bottom, confirming Jesus words - the Jewish people are no special in God's eyes anymore. Nothing that happens to them today in any way fulfills Bible prophecy. The apostle Paul, raised as an upper class jew, knew this. "He is not a jew who is one on the outside," he said. He is a Jew who is one on the inside, whose circumcision is of the heart."(Romans 2:29)
Obama and Israel and Palestine are all part of the World Jesus told his followers to be no part of. You can't be an approved christian and also be a republican, or a democrat, or any other political entity.
And, by the way, if you're going to be an examiner, learn to write. "any confusion any longer" is redundant; try to avoid using the same word twice in a sentence. The next sentence you did it again with "now." And who are you saying are "God's people"? The Jews? Christians? Republicans?

Robert Appleby, you FAIL.
Mr. Appleby is right in his assumptions. Obama's views have been apparent all along. I asked my neighbors why they would vote for him for President, as they are Jewish and he is obviously anti-semitic. They assured me that I was mistaken--Obama addressed these rumors himself by denying any bias on more than one occasion. I talked to them about him again a few weeks ago; they have a much different opinion of him now. Let's just say they're experiencing a violent case of buyer's remorse.
BTW, Mr. Appleby, your article is fine in substance.
Although I am certainly not a Democrat, Obama said only what the majority of the world thinks and feels about Israel. And, people world wide have felt the same about Jewish folks since the early ages. Appleby best be careful about what he wishes for: when America finally wakes up re: Israel she will be in for a lot rougher ride.
Thank you, Mr. Appleby. Several comments only prove the old truth, "scratch an unredeemed heart and you'll find an anti-Semite". These people will watch America continue to implode as she has been since she started pressuring Israel to trade land (land it won fair & square as spoils of a defensive war) for a "peace" that everyone with two contiguous functioning brain cells knows is shorthand for "the peace of the shambles at sundown".

It might behoove you to note this headline in haAretz (5-11-08): "Barack Obama wins 77 percent of Jewish vote, exit polls show" They are Leftists because they have seen like no other people the heavy hand of oppression. Only a few Jews have fallen for this Milton Friedman garbage. The rest are very smart, like Sy Hersh, Noam Chomsky, and Studs Terkel.
Besides, there is a strong peace movement in Israel, with groups like Yesh Din, and B'Tselem.

Ignorant? God's promise to the descendants of Abraham is "forever". Read your Bible before you start spouting out of context verses that were never intended to be used to discard Israel. God is not done with Israel and His blessing and curse is still and will always be intact. Your "replacement theology" is in error brother.
JB, what you say might be better applied to Robert Appleby. Bill U is spot on. His verses are not out of context and are only a small sample of what the NT says on this matter. The books of Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Hebrews, and 1 Peter explain God's plan for the chosen people. Israel is not discarded or replaced but fulfilled by reaching its true meaning and God's intention as expressed to Abram; the shadow has become the reality in Christ. Those who think otherwise are wedded to the OT and supporting a nation that is the enemy of Jesus Christ and his gospel.
