The barbeque joint in Chevy Court gets a lot of press - Dinosaur BarBQue is a Syracuse institution. But to have a different pulled pork experience at the New York State Fair, take a swing down the traffic aisle directly out the back doors of the Dairy Building. A few stands down the aisle, just past the side exits of the Poultry Building, stop. Inhale. Look to the left, where a whole pig slow-roasts on a spit each day of the fair. And then step up the ramp to lay down $7 for one of the fair's best bets, the Mountain View Restaurant pulled pork sandwich.
Mountain View Restaurant, based in Preble NY, offers a very different barbeque experience from the Dinosaur stand by Chevy Court. The sauce on the pork can be kicked up with added hot sauce, but as served it's a tangy sauce that is more vinegar than tomato based. Portions are hearty, and each day's smoked pig is the next day's pulled pork sale. Ribs, beef barbeque, and chicken are also offered at the stand, but the pulled pork sandwich is a winner every year.
Mountain View Restaurant is available for catering year-round from their location at 6662 Route 281, Preble NY. The restaurant doesn't have a website, but can be reached by phone at (607) 749-7447.
