L.A. Van Veghel's first published article was in the June 1977 issue of Wisconsin Hook & Shell magazine.
A former member in two fine instructional fishing clubs, Walleyes Unlimited USA and The Okauchee Fishing Club, he became the Okauchee Club secretary and wrote their newsletters. He's the secretary and media director for the Wisconsin Council of Sport Fishing Organizations and for the Wisconsin Fishing Club, Ltd. The past editor of the late Wishigan Outdoors said he's "A fisherman who also writes versus the usual outdoor writer who also goes fishing." He's done well in tournaments and ice fisherees, including winning the 2008 Wisconsin Governors Fishing Opener by 10# in the panfish category.
A former "The Fisherman" columnist for the "The Fox River Patriot," and a longtime Wisconsin editor for MidWest Outdoors magazine, he has sold over 1700 manuscripts. As a technical writer, he wrote 154 books.
