2010 World bronze medalists Federica Faiella and Massimo Scali announced their return to competitive skating after a brief retirement that started in March.

Their original decision to retire came after a successful Olympic season, during which they placed fifth in Vancouver and won their first ever World medal. But their post-Olympic season was difficult, as both skaters struggled with injuries during the season, culminating with a disappointing fifth place finish at the European Championships.
Faiella and Scali have been Italy's best ice dance team for the past ten years, winning seven national championship titles, 11 Grand Prix medals, and two European medals, in addition to their World bronze. Their countrymen, Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte, recently finished a career-high eighth at the World Championships.
