As the Pacquiao vs. Margarito press tour rolls on it looks likely that the pair will continue to face tough questions and criticism over whether the fight should even be happening. Margarito because of his now served suspension, and Pacquiao because of the long list of equally deserving names continuously calling him out and pursuing a fight with him.
Some have a problem with Margarito due to the hand wrap scandal, which is fair enough. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in this case many happen to be against him getting to fight Pacquiao and make millions of dollars because of that alone.
Others though are critical of the fact that the fight will be at a catchweight, or that the vacant WBC light middleweight strap will be on the line, or even because of the fact that Margarito took an absolute pummeling the last time he took on a top opponent.
A one sided loss to Shane Mosley aside, the truth is we really don't know what Margarito will look like against Pacquiao in November. Looking at the press conference pictures from yesterday he has a huge height advantage, not to mention he will have reach and weight on his side as well. Whether this be enough to counter Pacquiao's speed and movement and weather his attacks will have to remain to be seen.
Perhaps more is expected of Pacquiao than other fighters now after he steamrolled his way through two top welterweights in a row without running into any serious resistance. But how does this fight really compare to what some of his closest pound for pound rivals have in the pipeline?
Let's take for example some of the other names currently gracing The Ring's pound for pound list.
World number two on that list Floyd Mayweather is currently taking a vacation of unknown length, and was last seen by his fans on a series of late night Ustream videos flashing his cash and bragging about his expensive jewelry and betting habits. He has hinted about his next fight being in Dubai, but no details have been forthcoming, making it look unlikely that he will fight again this year.
Juan Manuel Marquez at number three is the exception to the rule as he next takes on Michael Katsidis in what should be an excellent fight before the end of the year, so nothing to knock him on there.
Most of the others on the list have nothing much planned for the immediate future. Williams and Martinez are still negotiating, but have nothing confirmed just yet. Similarly Nonito Donaire and Fernando Montiel have rumors but not much else at this stage.
Wlad Klitschko fights Samuel Peter in what should be an interesting scrap, but if we're being honest probably won't be that close given the improvements the Ukrainian has made since Peter downed him twice in their first encounter. Lastly Shane Mosley takes on Sergio Mora in a fight more about how far Mosley has declined than anything else.
The last name currently on the list is Thai WBC flyweight champ Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, who regularly fights debuting opponents despite his 76-3 record. He next takes on Suriyan Por Chokchai, who let's face it, isn't exactly a well known name in many parts of the world.
With the exception of Marquez vs. Katsidis there isn't a single fight confirmed right now that comes close to Pacquiao vs. Margarito, and you would be hard pressed to find a fight fan who is actually going to skip watching the fight altogether.
William Hawthorne, Pittsburgh: "Margo looked huge compared to Manny yesterday, I think the fight might be a lot closer than people think"
Alexandr Demyan, Philly: "I think it will be a great fight, even if Margarito just gets beaten down in 4 rounds and anyone who doesn't like it can just look at pictures of Mayweather's million dollar watches instead"

Mayflower will not even consider fighting margacheato, he will not take that risk, but I'm pretty sure that he will watch this fight more than he cares to admit. He want's to see how Manny would perform on this higher weight, would he still be fast and strong at the same time. What a pussy.
You're right man. Floyd "DUCK=CHICKEN" keeps on running and making a lot of excuses. That's why we end up seeing the alternative fight. At least PacMan is picking a BIGGER, STRONGER, TALLER and MIDDLEWEIGHT opponent while FLOYD is cherry picking a SMALLER, SHORTER and LIGHTWEIGHT Marquez.
WHAT A cherry-ducker of ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wahahahahahahahahaha=) i agree to both of you guy's.
PACMAN vs WILLIAMS nxt fight. . . MAYFLOWER will be more jealous and scare to death to fight pacman.hahahaha
Very true that Mayweather will surely watch this fight with keen interest. Observing, how Pacquiao carry his speed and strenght and style of fighting at this weight. Hoping, that Margacheato beat the hell of Pacquiao so that he can immediately come out from hiding and declare to the world that he'll challenge Margacheato without drug testing involved anytime and anywhere. But, of course, he'll be disappointed again, coz congressman Pacquiao will beat the hell of Margacheato.
“Why should any fighter who’s been banned because he was wearing Plaster of Paris in his gloves be allowed to fight?” De La Hoya questions.
The answer to De La Hoya’s questions can be answered in a simple phrase — Pacquiao facing Margarito in the ring is a hobson’s choice.

LAWMAKER VS LAWBREAKER, let the lawmaker punish the lawbreaker.
Brad, you failed to mention the other possible fight betweeen Maidana and Khan, this fight could be the fight of the year. True, Margarito looks a lot taller, bigger and perhaps stronger, all these physical advantages, hopefully be offset by Pacquiao's fast power punches that comes in bunches from all angles, coz if not, there's a big posiibility that the Mexicutioner may be executed by a Mexican in the ring in front of thousands of Mexican audience in Nov 13, 2010 at Dallas, Texas, Cowboys stadium.
We just have to wait and see. Pacquiao by TKO in the 5th round.
That isn't Brad's article, and he was only comparing the Ring p4p top ten fighters to Pac, but I agree Maidana vs. Khan could be the best fight of the year
You're right, my fault. It should be Scott instead of Brad.
forget dela hoya forget golden boy they are all dying of jealousy. Golden Boy is even scared of fighting Margarito. That's why he doesn't want him to get a license. Hey Golden Boy man up and face Margaritowhen you were still fighting you dont even want to face him and now you are yapping your mouth. MAN UP GOLDEN BOY. U thought u would have an easy time with man and you didn't even reach the ending bell. lol
Pacquiao, why all get the blame...as what Pacquiao always says he is a boxer/fighter..he is not the promoter....put anybody in front of Pacquaio at equal weight never mind of the height and reach advantage and Pacquaio will say LETS GET IT ON!
Wonder how Floyd Mayweather feel if Pacquiao beats Margarito in a devastating shocking fashion..just like what happened to Ricky Hatton!...will Floyd be scared to fight Pacquiao for the rest of his life! Damn! its NIGHTMARE FOR LIFE FOR FLOYD!
Floyd Sr......Lil Midget? yah yah yah....convince your Jr. to step up in the Ring and fight the Lil Midget from Asia (The Philippines)...
HIDE FLOYD!!! MANNY'S BACK IN TOWN!!!
Most, in fact all, of the bloggers here are Filino nationals or Filipinos living abroad. There are some who tried to make comments without calling other people bad names or described them with deragatory and offensive descriptions. There are some who does, without regard to the truth or factual evidenced normally presented by the writer. The bottom line is the fact, that Filipinos are calling each other names due to disagreements of opinions. It's okay to disagree with someone by expressing views in a civil manner, but not okay when disagreements ends up in calling someone ugly names as part of their opposition views. Let's be respectful among us Filipinos, but of course, unfortunately, there are always be someone that acts childish and be different, coz they think its cool to be the exceptions.
The biggest problem is the fact that some Filipinos making comments have limited know how in expressing their opinions and instead of learning from other bloggers who express their thought very well they have the tendencies of trying to say short ugly sentences that could be offensive to some bloggers who love to read other blogs and express their own opposing views in a manner where all bloggers respect. I would suggest that if english is limited use tagalog to make comments, perhaps the comments made in tagalog could be an interesting opinion to read.
Fernando Montiel will knock out Nonito Donaire with in 7 rounds period. The contract is out for this fight to be on Nov. 13 undercard but Donaire hesitated to sign it after what he saw how Montiel knocked out Concepcion.
Note: Before Montiel bulldozed Concepcion, Nonito was calling him out. Now, he's in hiding under his wife pants.
well i dont mind hiding under rachel's underpants
wither Pac win or lose at list he is not AFFRAID to take a chance.... we cant say the same about floyd!!!
WHAT ABOUT JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ VS RAFAEL MARQUEZ?? I THINK THATS GONNA BE BETTER THAN MARQUEZ VS KASIDIS
It's true that this fight is going to be at a catchweight, but instead of criticizing Pacquiao he should actually be praised for it. The reason for this is that by agreeing to fight Margarito at 151 lbs. instead of 147 lbs, where he is the champion, Pacquiao is actually giving away an advantage to Margarito, who does not need to drain himself to come down to 147 lbs. . So this is way bigger and tougher than the Dela Hoya fight. Pacquiaoi is fighting someone who is about his age and not old, not weight-drained, is taller, can pull the trigger (in fact, a volume puncher), and with a granite chin. . Pacquiao has got some major balls for agreeing to fight Margarito, who incidentally, Floyd also ducked. If Pacquiao manages to win this one, especially in a spectacular fashion, then he further cements his claim to being one of the all time greats.
Praised for what? For rewarding somebody who wanted to murder another boxer? If the criteria is fighting somebody bigger, well, Paul Williams is there. What about Marquez? Don't tell me that that won't be an intriguing fight, especially since our idol has not convinced everybody that he has indeed beaten Marquez. Heck, Pacquiao could fight Mickey Mouse and that will be a better one than this sham. The point is, you don't reward somebody who has done something that is extremely disgusting. That is the whole point as to why people don't like this fight. It is not about Marg being bigger or Mayweather ducking Marg before. If Margarito did not get involved in this scandal, and Pacquiao fought him, I would be the first one to heap praises on him. But sadly, our hero has sided with evil this time.
so if manny turned down this fight then you floydiots would then say that pacman ducked margarito, just like floyd did. who knows if he gets past margarito then a match with the much larger paul williams might be in the horizon (assuming that floyd will run away again for the third time).
if pacquiao chose p williams 151 lbs, foydiots will call him scared of williams, if he chose martinez which was KO by margarito, you will brand him cherry picker (martinez lost to williams and marga), if pacman fight a small marquez, his win will be like floyd against a small dinamita, if he beat the overhype bradley who? people will ask bradley who? berto who? grandpa mosley? MARGARITO WAS FEARED BY GAYWEATHER BACK IN WELTERWEIGHT TIMES!!! IF MARGA BEAT PACMAN, FLOYD WILL BE MUCH SCARED AGAINST MARGA!
Li'l Ape is too scared to face either Margarito or Pacquiao. I bet u that he'll be macho in facing one of #1floydfan's inflatable dolls - LoL
many writers criticized manny for fighting a cheater margarito. these writers never criticized floyd fighting a mosley who admitted using steroids. double standard? .
Those who are whining about 150 are forgetting that Mosley-Margarito was fought at 147. Even Mayweather-Mosley was fought at 147. You think Mayweather would have fought Margarito at 150? He didn't even want to fight him at 147! Now we have the smallest welterweight in years and he's fighting ABOVE welterweight even though he doesn't have to. Yet some people complain about it like he's cheating or something. What are they gonna say if Pac demanded a non-catchweight fight at 147? It's not like Pac is really after the title; if he did he would have won it already via Foreman or Cotto. The WBC is the one pushing for this to be a title fight just so they can collect sanctioning fees.

i beg everybody to stop their dream of pitting marquez against pacquiao. they are in two different worlds now. marquez is at 135 while pacquiao is already in the 147 lbs. to make the fight happen would mean either marquez climb to 147 which as we have seen with his fight with floyd at 145, has been to slow and seemed to have lost his strength. he would'nt last a few seconds to pacquiao. in the case of manny, to make him go down to 135 or 140 just to accomodate marquez would also be suicide. manny can no longer go down to 135. going down to 135 from 147 means that you have to starve yourself to death. that's impossible. so folks, much as we want to see them fight again, it will be just another case of impossible dream. it might be a big payday for marquez BUT it might cost him his dear life. i dont want to see that happen as i also have much respect for this gallant mexican fighter. truly, a man mexicans MUST be proud of.
