It's been all over the news that Whipped Lightning will soon be available at a liquor store near you. What is it and where can you find it? Whipped Lightning is the newest gimmick -- alcohol-infused whipped cream in a can. And you can't find it anywhere in Kentucky -- yet. And when it does make its arrival, it's going to be about $13 a can. That's pretty steep for something you can quickly and easily make yourself -- for just a couple of bucks.
The folks at Liquor Mart and Meijer's Party Store, both in Richmond, hadn't heard of Whipped Lightning yet, but you may have. And if you're thinking it would be an awesome treat to top off your fancy desserts or cocktails this holiday season, you're absolutely right.
Whipped Lightning is your typical whipped cream in an aerosol can. When it does finally make its way onto Kentucky liquor store shelves it will be available in 9 flavors:
- German Chocolate
- Caramel Pecan
- Hazelnut Espresso
- Amaretto
- White Chocolate Raspberry
- Spiced Vanilla
- Tropical Passion
- Coconut
- Strawberry Colada
While the creators of Whipped Lightning intended it to be used largely for topping cocktails, imagine topping your Pumpkin Pie with a big dollop of Caramel Pecan whipped cream. Or garnishing your New York Cheesecake with a border of White Chocolate Raspberry whipped cream.
Whether you're thinking that alcohol-infused whipped cream would make a fabulous dessert topping or the perfect topping for your Sex On The Beach or Blow Job shots, follow these recipes to make your own special blends of alcohol-infused whipped cream.
Basic Whipped Cream
Ingredients
1 pint heavy whipping cream
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup powdered sugar
Using a chilled bowl and beaters, beat 1 pint heavy whipping cream just until frothy. Add vanilla and ¼ cup powdered sugar and beat on high speed until mixture forms soft peaks. Don't over-beat or you'll end up with butter.
Now, let's add some alcohol!
To flavor your whipped cream with your favorite liqueur, add 1-½ tablespoons to the mixture before whipping. Try any of the following:
- Grand Marnier
- Frangelico
- Bailey's Irish Cream
- Chambord
- Kahlua
- Amaretto
- Godiva Chocolate
- Godiva White Chocolate
Now, how will you use these tasty toppings? Try them on desserts -- cheesecakes, ice cream sundaes, fresh fruit, rum cake, warm gingerbread, fill cream puff shells, top a chocolate cream pie, put a dollop on your strawberry topped waffles ... anywhere you'd normally use ordinary whipped cream. Or use them to top warm drinks -- hot toddies, hot chocolate, Irish coffee. And of course, they're the perfect complement for shots and cocktails, especially on frozen drinks like a frozen daiquiri or margarita.

Love it and can't wait to try it... how did I never think of doing this before?!?!!??!?!?!
I know what you mean, Daphne. I've whipped up probably a million batches of whipped cream and I've added alcohol to just about everything imaginable. But I never thought about combining the two! Who'da thunk?!
How would you add passion fruit flavor?
