Bring the kids and the family dog to Bark in the Park and Lundefest Too! The canine celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Expo Park, 10955 E. Exposition Ave. Admission is free.
The Norwegian Lundehund Dog Show is one of numerous activities scheduled for Bark in the Park and Lundefest Too!, an annual event recognizing AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day. The Lundehunds, the rare breed of six-toed canines, will strut their stuff at 11 a.m. Only about 1,200 Lundehunds exist worldwide, and measure between a foot and 15 inches tall. They feature an unusual sixth toe on each fore foot that enables them to climb steep inclines.
As part of AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day, Bark in the Park offers a Kids Corner where youngsters will learn about safety around dogs, pet ownership and create original canine crafts. Aurora Police will have volunteers available to do fingerprinting for kids.
Other activities include educational sessions about various breeds from owners and experts as well as demonstrations in fly ball, carting, junior showmanship (for the kids), obedience, rally and conformation showing. Vendors will be on hand and food will be available for purchase.
Bark in the Park and Lundefest Too! are presented by the Arapahoe Kennel Club and sponsored by The Norwegian Lundehund Breeders Association and the Plum Creek Kennel Club of Colorado, in partnership with the City of Aurora Recreation Division.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome and are expected to be on leash. The event will take place rain or shine. For more information, call Cindy at 303-696-7106 or e-mail cinergyboxers@aol.com.
