As the BP oil leak continues into its eighth straight week, environmental catastrophe threatens local residents and the marine life of the Gulf of Mexico. There have been many failed attempts to stop the spill by BP which has succeeded so far in only slowing the leak. The prospects of removing the oil polluting the Gulf of Mexico are not good, and it may be years before the toxic oil and dispersants used on it will be removed using current technologies available to the oil industry. Now some have begun to ask whether the solution lies in advanced technology being released that is extraterrestrial in origin, and has been kept secret in classified military projects. Some go a step further and are calling for alien intervention to stop the leak. A petition calling for extraterrestrials to show up and assist humanity on a range of global problems passed 10,000 signatures around the same time as the Gulf oil leak appeared. Signatories believe that a request by the general public for assistance will be heard and answered by extraterrestrials monitoring Earth, who are waiting for public requests to intervene to assist in global problems such as the Gulf oil leak.
Jeff Peckman, the main organizer of the Denver Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission ballot initiative scheduled for voting in the November 2010 elections, believes extraterrestrial technologies are available that could be used to stop the Gulf oil leak. He says:
This initiative would help just in raising the awareness that there are such technologies that have been available and even known by our government for decades that could produce clean energy technology, cure cancer, cleanup the environment — a wide range of technologies that have been there.
Support for Peckman comes from Dr Steven Greer founder of the Disclosure Project. Greer has interviewed over 500 government, military and corporate whistleblowers who claim that advanced extraterrestrial technologies exist, and have been secretly developed. Greer has compiled an extensive database of interviews, and released a book filled with the testimonies of 60 witnesses supporting the existence of advanced technologies, some recovered from UFO crashes, that are suppressed from the public. Greer writes:
For many decades, these advances in energy and propulsion technologies have been acquired, suppressed and classified by certain interests who have viewed them as a threat to our security from both an economic and military perspective.
In addition to suppressed extraterrestrial technologies, there are those who believe extraterrestrials have sent messages offering support for resolving global problems. A petition requesting extraterrestrials to reveal their existence and assist humanity recently passed 10,000 signatures. The petition, We Are Ready, begins with an analogy to the situation confronting humanity with regard to extraterrestrial life:
[O]ur experience on this planet demonstrates that the contact of a human society with a larger collective can be difficult. We understand that, in this situation, we are in the role of Pacific Islanders on the eve of Discovery. Great ships of the foreign powers wait offshore, out of visual range. Even though the ships are invisible, our seers have advised us that the ships are out there, waiting. So it is time to consider our options…
The petition goes on to point out the importance of Earth’s environment and whether extraterrestrials would assist in preserving its sanctity and beauty:
What do we want? Certain places on Earth are of exceptional beauty. The island of Tahiti is an example of a place so beautiful that visitors are content to "take only memories" and "leave only footprints." We would like to be able to conserve the planet's natural environment so we can continue to enjoy the rich variety of life that surrounds us. As well, certain places on Earth are sacred. We desire that the Earth’s sacred landscape will remain dedicated to universal values such as Truth, Freedom, and the quest for God.
As the Gulf Oil leak continues to pollute the environment at an unprecedented level, the opportunity exists for humanity to take a quantum leap from planetary isolation, to galactic society. Beautiful and pristine habitats are being lost because of failure to use advanced technologies to stop the leak, and clean up the environment. Perhaps there’s no better time than now to collectively sing the Carpenters’ “Calling occupants of interplanetary craft …”

I don't think the ETs should show up. I'd like them too, but there are 2 aims that I believe benevolent ETs have-helping us and protecting the Earth.
If they zap all the oil away, then that keeps us from learning the lessons that we need to get off oil in the 1st place. That we have better ways of getting rid of the oil and are not using them-for example, hay-is telling about what the priorities are of the powers that be that run things.
I was thinking about stories that I’ve heard where an ET ship was seen over Chernobyl, reducing the radiation count there. The ETs didn’t get rid of all contamination-it was still bad after they left, but it was not as bad as it could have been…and they left us with enough mess to get enough consequences that we might again, progress to a higher realm.

The mere absurdity of the caption of this article managed to catapult my humble self vertically out of my socks - with about 12g (1g=9.81m/s²). One could demand as well to diclose the existence of unicorns, Bigfoot, Nessie, and Yeti (all together). The article itself is not only a wingnuttery, but insults the scientific community. Imagine the situation: 10'000s of scientists do a hard and dilligent job on a daily basis to find one single piece of scientific proof for extraterrestrial life, while Mr. Salla abuses his academic credentials to fool the gullible superstitious masses by shoehorning and turning fiction and wishful thinking into facts. The problem with other people is they put their trust on themselves too much. How sure are they that what they observe is 100% foolproof when there are so many mysteries still unsolved by science?

I'm not a big UFO/ET person.
HOWEVER -- I am very intrigued by the number of UFO sightings that have suddenly cropped up since this tragedy. There is even an actual newscast where the reporter's standing outside at night and something in the distance just lifts up from the ground and takes off. It was crazy. I think they put it on youtube.
I can understand that we, as humans, need to learn some lessons here (did you know less than a year ago there was a spill almost this big in Australia - Montara well - it spewed for 4 months and Americans didn't even know about it? We ARE oil whores and we don't care what happens as long as it doesn't happen in our yard).

A little fact setting: the ET Ballot initiative did not get 10,000 valid signatures. It needed 4,000, turned in 10,000, but over half of those were invalid. So it squeaked by with just the 4,000 it needed.
