On July 9, 2010, The People’s Daily of China ran a story about a UFO witnessed by hundreds over China on July 7. The UFO closed down Xiaoshan Airport, which serves the city of Hangzhou, for an hour; and Air Traffic controllers could not identify the UFO. An official investigation was subsequently launched. A resident took a photo of the cigar shaped UFO that was cited in the People’s Daily story (image on right). Together with radar evidence, the photo has been widely circulated in the mass media as physical evidence of a UFO responsible for closing down a busy regional airport. However, shortly after the People’s Daily story, the photo was included with four others on Godlike Productions, a popular U.S. internet forum. The problem was that the four other photos were unrelated to the China incident and/or fakes. The fakes were included with the genuine UFO China photo in a Youtube video that went viral. Was it simply a mistake, or had a psychological operation begun to downplay the significance of the China UFO incident by mixing a genuine photo with fakes.
The significance of the China UFO story is all too evident by the fact that the People’s Daily is the official mouthpiece of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and is published worldwide in several languages. In putting out the story, Chinese authorities were sanctioning public discussion of a mass sighting of a UFO that closed a major airport in China. In approving the release of the story, were Chinese authorities simply displaying a remarkable degree of openness on the UFO issue? Alternatively, were they signaling to Western authorities that the People’s Republic had chosen to inform its, and the world’s, public about UFOs?
One sign of the attitude of Chinese authorities was that an anonymous source cited by the People’s Daily claimed there was a military link to the UFO. This was an apparent bid to dampen speculation and prevent too much information coming out in China about the UFO’s origins without it first being reported to authorities. Was the real significance of the UFO that it was a secret China’s military aircraft project involving national security; or was it an extraterrestrial vehicle giving a warning to Chinese authorities to disclose the truth about UFOs and alien life? In either case, Chinese authorities may have authorized the People’s Daily story to begin educating the public about UFOs. If so, then those opposed to UFO disclosure and educating the public about extraterrestrial life, began a psychological operation to dampen global speculation about the incident. To do so, the time honored method of mixing genuine data with false data was begun, and the popular internet forum Godlike Productions was the location to launch it
The People’s Daily story appeared at 7:55 AM on July 9 in China. The 12 hour time difference between US East Coast and China (Hong Kong time) meant that it appeared at 7:55 pm EDT on July 8. The photo used in the story was attributed to local resident in Xiaoshan district of Hangzhou, with the source cited as Metrolink. Later, ABC News was able to track down the resident and reported:
Resident Ma Shijun was taking a nighttime stroll with his wife when he saw the object. "I felt a beam of light over my head. Looking up, I saw a streak of bright, white light flying across the sky, so I picked up the camera and took the photo. The time was 8:26 p.m. However, whether the object was a plane, or whether it was Xiaoshan Airport's UFO, I don't have a clear answer," Ma told the Xinhua news agency.
Approximately ten hours later, at 6:25 AM EDT the photo used in the People’s Daily story was linked to, along with four others, on a post from someone allegedly in China on Godlike Productions. Here’s what the poster said: “5 photo of UFO in China. PS or not?” The poster was asking whether the 5 photos, allegedly of the UFO that closed Xiaoshan Airport were photoshopped fakes or genuine. The problem was that only the first of the five photos had anything to do with the July 7 sighting. The other four were dated between 2007 and 2009, and were identified on another popular internet forum, Open Minds, to be time lapse shots of helicopters or other unrelated UFO incidents. It appeared that someone wanted to muddy the waters over the China UFO incident by mixing a genuine photo with fakes and/or earlier unrelated photos.
The five posted photos allegedly of the China UFO were then combined in a Youtube video titled “Amazing Photos of UFO over China” which went viral on July 10. Basically, the Youtube video mixed a genuine photo of the UFO that closed Xiaoshan Airport (third photo in the video below), with four fake/unrelated photos taken between 2007-2009. A poster, allegedly from China, had just succeeded in muddying the waters by ensuring that the genuine photograph of the UFO closing Xiaoshan Airport would be comprised by fake photos. Was this simply a mistake compounded by an innocent Youtube poster, or a very clever psychological operation authorized by those opposed to China’s openness to UFOs and possible disclosure of extraterrestrial life!
In conclusion, it appears that hundreds of residents of the city of Hangzhou saw and/or photographed the UFO that closed Xiaoshan Airport. The photo that appeared in the original People’s Daily story was genuine and Chinese authorities were giving their blessing to greater openness on the UFO issue by their official news outlet. By citing a military link, the People’s Daily sought to calibrate the Chinese public response and ensure all UFOs sightings were reported through legitimate channels. Meanwhile, those alarmed by the prospect that China was becoming more open on the UFO issue and were educating their public for a possible extraterrestrial disclosure went into action through a clever psychological operation launched through a popular internet forum, Godlike Productions. The People’s Daily is to be congratulated for its report of the UFO responsible for the Xiaoshan Airport closing, and releasing a possible photo of it. Discernment is the key as different countries display greater openness on the UFO issue and the extraterrestrial hypothesis, and psychological operations are launched to thwart this.

This story points to some very political aspects of alien craft sightings. IF the cigar-shaped craft was alien, which group of aliens was over Hangzhou? Cigar-shaped craft have often been associated with human-looking "aliens" known for abductions.
If that was the case in Hangzhou, then such aliens might be trying to both signal and approach the Chinese government. I, myself, assume as a matter of course, that abducting aliens, who have a material/hegemony agenda, would already have contacted the Chinese government. And their breeding program might also target the Chinese elite.
Ironically, China's press let us know about this. Are they trying to provoke more informed discussion? I think so. Unlike some in US black budget circles, they appear to know that many questions must be answered. Publication of the story shows a kind of caution---about such incursions.
We need to share info with the Chinese (reports, presentations, conferences, etc.).
I think the fact that the story ran in People's Daily means that the Chinese were telling the U.S. to back off some conflict that did not get disclosed in public. The Chinese know the U.S. has a whole, whole lot of credibility to loose in the event of disclosure, not to mention a lot of explaining to do. In threatening to disclose Cosmic Watergate, the Chinese are rather cynically adding the UFO issue as another important bargaining chip -- along with their ownership of nearly $1 trillion in U.S. bonds -- in whatever push and pull is going on behind the scenes as China begins flexing its regional superpower status and the U.S. pushes back as best it can.

I have been scouring the web for stories of this event and found Google pointing to some really obscure sources... most of them playing it up for humor. In fact, I had no idea this article existed until Roger Marsh shared the link.
I was impressed that ABC News has been running the video of the object... the one that displays something of a rooster tail contrail in its wake... aside from the trajectory differences, it is somewhat similar to the Norway Spiral object.

The editor of "Peoples Daily' will either receive a bonus or have his organs sold. In China you watch the organs intead of or in addition to "the money." If the editor's organs remain intact, then we're probably looking at a light; if the organs disappear into some party member or rich Westerner's's black hole, then we're looking at, well, a light (i.e. nothing solid).

It's a missile, erroneously jetting some type of fuel. They don't care about our local, insignificant political agendas, nor are they "Signaling" a desire for "Contact." Chase ghosts all you want, but in the end, what is true is more true than what is supposition. The photos seen aren't a Psychological Warfare Operation to thwart disclosure, it is people seeking hits for their website, then others following a false trial of crumbs into the woods because they have no sense of investigative accuracy. To me, that's a major point of this event : public, serious discussion of, well, UFOs. Now read carefully : that does not necessarily mean ALIENS. There is a major, major difference.
You might even say that's the whole point : UFOs are indeed real, as you can see, we just don't know what all of them are yet. You see, it's not that complicated, is it?
I don't see anyone claiming to know exactly what that was - sure, it's likely some black-military thing, but whose is it then? American? Chinese? How does either make any sense?

I hate to be boring as this above article was good. To me, the UFO looks like it's emitting earthly vapors (pollution in my opinion)which apparently the "real UFO's" are too cool to do. Yea, this one and its trajectory shown on other versions looks like a rocket/missile --possibly gone wrong. Unless ofcourse the UFO went wrong. If then there was just an object and no evidence of a gravitational-based trajectory, that would be different.
Ok here's the bottom line. There is not enough information to say what this is. It does look like some images of rocket flights from Vandenberg AFb that I've seen. As for some of the UFO/conspiracy speculations--get real or wait better yet I'll sell you my secret DVD of UFOs shooting it out with each other in the upper atmosphere.
How is it that when these crafts are appearing half of the time nobody looks through a scope or high power binoculars to see if it is a genuine craft? I noticed it's rod shape rather than disc which matches the photos of previous crafts? Now I would agree that many can be faked, such as the Haiti video of 08 and Eduard Meier's Pleiadian contact Asket, along with his prehistoric photo? I hold that still in question, unless he was told to produce false photos to cancel the disclosure? Which would explain for a lot of these types of incidents? You get confused with what is real and what is faked by those to keep the suppression going? One thing I liked about Alex Collier was that he never had to prove anything with photos or any kind of publicity stunts, he just gave us the ultimatum "if you want too see them, simply ask them to come in and help...but they aren't god's don't expect miracles"? Here's the deal...the photos of the long sub sandwich shaped object with the light beaming down are basically what was seen at the airport. Apparently one of these might not be genuine. There was another series of photos (that was actually a multi-stage rocket launch). That was the switcheroo I saw here in the US and if you saw this photo in conjunction with the story, you would dismiss it (which I believe was the intent).
The above was a great article because it showed that the Chinese treated the report seriously
