Infamous Playstation 3 cover.

April was a slow month for big blockbuster titles. Fortunately, May is looking like it will pick up the slab with several promising games. Here are the top five new video games to look forward to this month.

5. Bionic Commando (PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360)
The classic 2D game finally gets a sequel after more than 20 years. Bionic Commando brings the grappling action game into the 3D realms. In addition to an intense story mode, the long-awaited sequel will also support up to ten players in its online multiplayer modes when it comes out this month.

4. Patapon 2 (PSP)
Patapon 2 is the sequel to one of the best PSP games in 2008. It further adds to the wacky mix of rhythm-based gameplay and strategic preparations by including new units to command. Perhaps the best feature for Patapon 2 is that it will only costs $19.99, just like the first hit game.

3. Klonoa (Nintendo Wii)
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile may be the best platforming game no one has ever played. In this 2.5D platformer, you can grab onto enemies to use as projectile weapons or to reach higher places. Coming in May, the Nintendo Wii port will enhance the visuals while keeping the classic gameplay in tact.

2. Punch-Out!! (Nintendo Wii)
The old school boxing series returns and is better than ever with Punch-Out!!. Whether if you choose to play the game with motion control or use the old school method, this rhythm and pattern based boxing game will have you engrossed. Even if you managed to blast through the story mode, the multiplayer, new challenges and a new difficulty setting added to the mix will keep you busy come May.

1. Infamous (Playstation 3)
After a long wait, one of the most anticipated Playstation 3 exclusive games is finally nearing completion. Infamous is an open world game where you can unleash chaos with your new found electrical powers. As if the enormous city isn’t enough, the game also offers tons of replayability as you will need to make several moral choices with branching paths. You won’t find a better game release this May than Infamous.
