Famitsu.com just revealed the latest software sales figures for the Nintendo Wii, which just passed the 8 million units sold milestone. Here are the top five best selling Nintendo Wii games in Japan so far:
1. Wii Sports - 3,481,469
2. Wii Fit - 3,301,373
3. Wii Play - 2,672,811
4. Mario Kart Wii - 2,218,756
5. Super Smash Bros: Brawl - 1,789,924
It is important to note that Wii Sports is sold separately from the Nintendo Wii system in Japan. The sales number for Wii Play is skewed, however, as the game came bundled with a Wii Remote.
Another interesting trend is that the four best-selling games have the named “Wii” engraved onto it. Unfortunately for third-parties, using “Wii” in game titles seems to be reserved only for Nintendo.
Nintendo really made a killing with non-traditional gamers as the top three selling games cater to the casual. Sadly, this meant that games like Super Mario Galaxy got outsold by less worthy titles. All is fine in the minds of Nintendo though since they are the publisher of all five games on the best-selling list.
