I have in my possession a code good for three free months of LOTRO, and permission to pass it on to someone who needs it. That someone is not me, because I have a press account.
No one ever got rich (or even much past the level of income derived by street people shaking cups and threatening to pee on you) through game journalism. But a press account makes you feel rich, especially if the game is awesome. You sit at your desk having a wonderful time sightseeing and crafting and helping Aragorn with some minor but essential task while someone else pays for it.
Uh. Yeah. You may have noticed I'm kind of a dork. The deal is that I enjoy MMOs of all flavors with a guild, but when I play solo, I require a story, and I require gameplay that makes me part of the story. Also, while I may be playing solo, I don't want to play a single player game. I want a community, groups of like minded people with whom I can trade OOC banter. I find the LOTRO community on my server to be a hair more mature, helpful, and fun than the average run of these things. If you don't think communities differ, um, you clearly only play one MMO.
So, anyway, enough of my love letter to LOTRO. The point is, I have a three month code that I don't actually need. And therefore, it is time for... a contest!
Specifically, a Haiku contest. Because I love them. Here are the rules:
1. The Haiku format for this contest is the traditional 5/7/5.
2. Entries must be posted in the comments to this article.
3. The contest ends Monday, May 11, 2009, at noon EDT. You may post your Haikus after that point, but only those posted before the cutoff will be considered for a prize.
4. The poem must refer somehow to LOTRO. You may write in character, about some part of the game, or about the experience of playing the game.
5. The winner will be chosen by me, and my choice will no doubt be somewhat arbitrary. My decision is final, and anyone sulking about it will be mocked.
6. When you post, you are asked for an email address. This is not visible to anyone but me. If you want to collect your prize, it will need to be a real email address. If the winner has not given me a real email address, the runner up will receive the prize.
Bring on the Haiku!
