Square Enix has announced that their MMORPG Final Fantasy XI has reached 2 million active accounts for the first time since the game launched back in 2004.

In '05, the game seemed to have peaked at 1.5 million accounts and was heading south with the emergence of World of Warcraft. Square Enix battled back though, introducing a more relaxed approach to the title with changes that have brought growth to the game for the first time in years.

Congratulations on hitting such a solid milestone for a game few were excited about when originally announced.
