"The human mind always makes progress, but it is a progress in spirals."
~ Madame de Stael, French writer and revolutionary

Listening to visionary activist astrologer Caroline Casey always re-animates my reverence for Nature and affirms my purpose as a player for the planet. Discussing Earth's shifting weather patterns, she revealed that the word "hurricane" means "Heart of Heaven."

"Mythematician" Michael Schneider, who teaches an appreciation of mathematics through the wisdom of Nature, says hurricanes are spirals. Spirals come from the number 5 — the symbol and structure of regeneration, and of love (the planet Venus began drawing a celestial pentagram on June 8, 2004, which will complete in 2012). Spirals are Nature's way of resolving opposites, always with an underlying symmetry.

The lesson of the spiral, says Schneider, is that everything is a dynamic energy event with which we can choose to cooperate, to ritualize rather than literalize.

Have the hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other natural "disasters" we've lived through in recent times been emissaries in disguise? And might their message be, "It's time to recognize all our relations, to embrace rather than engulf?"

Social scientist Duane Elgin seems to think so. When he asked audiences around the world how old we would be if our species were a single individual, the consensus was: a teenager. However, Elgin holds high hope that humanity is growing up.

Mapping our collective development as the classic "Hero's Journey," he believes we're at the threshold of Initiation, which presages the Return to conscious unity. In our first 35,000 years, we muddled along with an indistinct sense of self, yet unconsciously at one with Nature. Over time, we've acquired a strong sense of self — but at the cost of separation from the natural world. Bridging this gulf is our common quest now.

It's a potent moment for some preemptive magic. Initiated Mayan elder and author Martín Prechtel, also a frequent guest on Caroline's radio show, suggests we engage in "love drive-bys": you run up to someone, press chocolate into their palm and run away. What a deliciously playful expression of the true meaning of power: that which heals us into our wholeness.

In Einstein's theory of relativity, the speed of Light is the same for all observers, and the laws of Nature are both constant and independent of human observation. Living at the speed of Light (awake to our own radiance), we see this same glow emanating from everyone and everything else.

Evolution is relative. We know it works in theory. How will it look in practice?

Casey counsels, "Let's take the 'g' out of kingdom!" In the kindom of creation, we are all connected through the heart. We can joyfully send the extracted "G" spiral swirling into the Galactic Center, to transmute our willfulness into willingness. It's a subtle shift that restores us to reverent curiosity: the heartspace of real power, where healing happens.

1) In several of my articles, I've called for a Council of Clan Mothers, a Cabinet-level wisdom circle that the White House would consult before implementing any major policy change.

The synchronicity factor is strong in these exceptional times. Recently I read an article called, "A Message From the Department of Crazy Wisdom" by veteran radio commentator and author Wes "Scoop" Nisker, who writes, "What the United States really needs is a Department of Wisdom, a government agency that would be staffed by philosophers, anthropologists, historians, some jesters, and even a few mystics; people who see the world in a different way than economists, generals and senators. Although the political right may currently be in charge, our real oppressor is the 'left-brain' government. A Department of Wisdom just might provide some critical balance of powers."

3) No Frequent Flyer Miles Required… John Ninomiya takes the old Fifth Dimension tune, "Up, Up and Away" to heart. He's transformed balloon bouquets into an air travel art form. Talk about traveling light!
