Harmonix, MTV Games and Electronic Arts say 'Rock Band'
  is really rockin'.

Viacom's MTV Games, game developer Harmonix and distribution partner Electronic Arts Inc. did a little crowing Thursday, announcing in a press release that the "Rock Band" franchise has surpassed $1 billion dollars in retail sales in its first 15 months in North America, according to the NPD Group.

In addition, they announced the over 600 available songs have been purchased with over 40 million individual paid downloads through the Rock Band platform.

And this comes months before "The Beatles: Rock Band," due in September, makes its debut.
