It was unusual in 1965 for a rock star to receive the MBEs (Member of the British Empire) the Beatles did. And the award didn't go without some objections from others.
But George Harrison, quoted in Disc Weekly, said that at the ceremony, the Queen did her best to put everyone at ease. "Everyone at the Palace was very nice and any bad feeling we expected, or feared, from other people getting medals wasn't there. We were all glad about that."
