Are you interested in finding local followers on Twitter?

Depending upon the kind of business you are involved with you may be looking only for local followers or for a combination of both local and long distance.

In either case, most businesses will benefit from a local following on Twitter.  That said, there are so many people on Twitter so how do you find local people? Here are 5 ways you can do this effectively:

1. Use Twellow.

Twellow has a great feature called Twellowhood which allows you to search only for people who live in a certain state, city or neighborhood.

2. Include your state or city and state in your Twitter Profile.

Too often people either say online, everyone, or the United States of America as their location on their Twitter Profile. If you want local followers then you need other tweeple in your area to be able to find you as well as you finding them.

3. Do a search for the names of your local cities and states in search.twitter.com

This will pull up many people who either live in these cities and states or who are talking about them.

4. Find and Follow people you meet locally or people you know locally.

You can do this by using the twitter search linked above and by searching for them by name. The home page of Twitter.com also has a search by name feature you can use as well.

5. Use TweetScan to find local people.

www.tweetscan.com is another website you can use to search for people by name or location. This works great for finding more local people.
