"Keeping up with the Donaires"

In this edition of my collaboration with Nonito and Rachel Donaire that we conviniently titled "Keeping up with the Donaires", Nonito personally updates his fans in his blog regarding the developments in his training camp after the press conference of Pinoy Power 2 that will headline Donaire against Panama's Rafael Concepcion at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas.

Donaire also candidly talks about the passing of one of his ring idols, Alexis Arguello who as he revealed, has been a great inspiration for Team Donaire for quite some time now.

Fans can also come and visit Nonito in training this Saturday at the Undisputed Gym in San Carlos California as Team Donaire opens their training camp for fans to get a glimpse of Nonito as he prepares for his upcoming fight.

The Donaires also shared their behind the scenes video during the recent Las Vegas press conference for Pinoy Power 2 and showed how signing boxing gloves can be one of a world champion boxer's more time-consuming tasks.

You can read and see more about Nonito and Rachel Donaire in their official website www.FilipinoFlash.com.

Enjoy!

July 11 and the sink

Where do I start with this blog? There are just so many things happening and I’ve been really focused on my opponent as of late. Well I can’t go around and not mention Arguello’s death. I remember my mother telling me that my uncle, who is a priest in Bohol, considered Arguello as his favorite fighter. I remember my dad was always mentioning to me that Arguello was a great fighter. It was that time, when we were watching Arguello’s fight and my dad was teaching me throw the same hook but I was really frustrated. It was my brother Glenn who explained to me how to throw the hook and that’s how I throw the hook now.

I also remember my brother wearing the same Arguello shorts that he passed down to me during my amateur career. Before Arguello’s death, actually at Undisputed in San Carlos, my strength trainer, Mike Bazzel, was saying how great of a champion and great of a gentleman Arguello was as we were watching Arguello’s fight. Then the next week he died. Bazzel was really devastated and I just couldn’t believe it. But this whole month, there have been a lot of people dying: Farah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, the Oxyclean guy, Steve Mcnair, the old dude from Star Search, and then Arguello among others. It makes me look back at how important my family is to me, my wife and everyone who cared about and me and supported me. And I just want to thank everyone because you never know what life has in store or how life will take you.

Enough with the sad stuff, I don’t want to be depressed here.

The press con was really good. I got to meet my opponent. My wife won $200 something on the craps table. Today, Monday I trained really hard. Oh wait, we actually went to Salinas to pick up one of my sparring partners, Glen Gonzales. My wife drove back and forth two hours and I felt really bad for her even though I offered to drive but I was really tired because we went straight after running. The gym was cool. I was eager to train because of the three day weekend and because we went back and forth between here and Sacramento. You guys can come and see me train at the gym, come meet and greet the Flash in the Flesh LOL on July 11 here in San Carlos, where I train at Undisputed. And also you guys can win some prizes and stuff like that so come and kick it with me this Saturday.

Oh, you know what’s funny? I felt so dumb. I turn on the faucet and all of a sudden I heard a rattling noise and I thought it was the pipe. I couldn’t figure out what it was so I called Rachel’s dad who knows a lot about stuff like that. If he wasn’t there I would have called a professional or something to fix it. He tried to fix it and start messing with the water but we could still here the sound. He even turned off the water. But the sound was still there so we decided to leave it, go to the gym and come back for it. When we came back Rachel’s sister Nicole had figured it out because she’s way way super smarter than I am. Guess what was the problem? My vibrating toothbrush was behind the faucet. I guess when I turned on the water, I pressed against the on switch on the toothbrush so it was making that rattling sound. My vibrating toothbrush was the culprit. HAHA

So just a reminder, July 11 come and see me at Undisputed in San Carlos at 1:30pm and see me train, take pictures, win prizes and stuff like that. Oh also, you can send pictures of me and you to fan@filipinoflash.com so we can put it up on our fan page. Thanks again guys for visiting the website and supporting Filipino Flash, for supporting me, and please support Pinoy Power 2 on August 15. I just want you guys to know that I really super appreciate you guys for all your support.
