Kung fu grindhouse
Grindhouse cinema has become popular again over the past few years with the success of directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, both of whom teamed up together to create a pairing of films specifically in the grindhouse genre. Now you can see some old school grindhouse at The Sunset Tavern’s Kung Fu Grindhouse night.
Grindhouse films are basically exploitation films. They forego the traditional movie-making necessities like good acting, a film plot, character development, creative directing and production values in favor of exploitation and shock value such as sex, violence, nudity and gore. The term actually stemmed from the old theaters, known as grindhouses, that played these dark and cheap films. A more specific definition narrows grindhouse down to the low budget, and typically bloody, kung fu and samurai films of the 70s that came out of China and Japan.
The Sunset Tavern is bringing you some classic grindhouse cinema with their Kung Fu Grindhouse night on Monday, May 18. The event is free and starts at 7pm with The Giant Claw, which holds the tagline “Flying beast out of prehistoric skies!” Following at 8:30pm is Rats, full of Italian nuke-horror rats. The finale film, Five Fingers of Death, comes on at 10pm. This classic grindhouse is literally an eye for an eye martial arts bloodbath complete with 70s era dubbing.
Due to the nature of the films and the fact that they are being shown in tavern, it should be noted that this screening is only for ages 21 and up. Grindhouse can be hard for some, they’re called exploitation films for a reason, and so a sense of humor is essential. Make your way to The Sunset Tavern on Monday, May 18 for some classic low-budget cinema at Kung Fu Grindhouse night.

Comments
"Grindhouse" is not a genre and this event has been going for years, well before Tarantino and his big budget yawn-fest. I guess you wouldn't know that though, your description of grindhouse films clearly shows that you have virtually zero experience with these films. When you get done crying after your 12th viewing of Avatar go check out Kung Fu Grindhouse.
