'Intersection of Greatness', an exhibit featuring photos of Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Muhammed Ali taken in Miami, has officially been extended to October 2. This exhibit of photos taken by Charles Trainor has been on display since mid-August at the Perfect Exposure Gallery. The exhibit was originally scheduled to close yesterday, but the Gallery just announced that they would extend the exhibit for another two weeks.
'Intersection of Greatness' features rare images of Elvis Presley on August 3, 1956 when he performed at the Olympia Theater in Miami, Florida. One rare pictures shows Elvis with a new white Cadillac. According to Gallery owner, Armando Arorizo, Presley's original white Cadillac had been decorated with lipstick messages by hordes of female fans. As a result, a local Cadillac dealer offered Elvis a new white Cadillac in exchange for his lipstick-graffiti car.
Eight years later, photographer Trainor was present at the Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach when The Beatles played the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964. He captured The Beatles rehearsing for show as well as their free time frolicking on the beach.
Trainor was also there when the legendary meeting between The Beatles and Muhammed Ali took place. While many shots of The Beatles meeting Ali have been seen over the years, Trainor's shots are unique since they were taken from the front. Arorizo explains that most of the photographers only got a side view due to a light behind The Beatles that was interfering with the shot. However, Trainor was able to capture great shots straight on of the Fab Four with 'The Greatest'. (Click on either photo to enlarge)
Trainor's photos were unearthed by his son, Charles Trainor, Jr., after being hidden away in the family home for over 45 years. (see video interview)
