November is here and it is time to start gearing up for Thanksgiving. This week the Alphabet activities series brings you a festive and fun teaching tool. Create an adorable and easy ABC turkey felt set that your kids will enjoy learning with throughout the holiday season. See the slide show at the bottom for a step-by-step photo tutorial. The total cost of this project is around $2.
Materials:
1 sheet of brown felt
1 sheet of tan felt
1 sheet of white felt
1 sheet of orange felt
1 sheet of yellow felt
1 sheet of red felt
1 bag of foam adhesive letters (can often be found at Dollar Tree)
1 set of googly eyes
Scissors
Turkey template (optional)
Steps:
1. Begin by cutting out the pieces of your turkey. You can follow a template like the one shown in the photo album, modify an existing template or create your own. The body is brown, wings are tan and beak and legs are orange.
2. Cut out your feathers. The ones here are white, red, yellow, orange, tan and brown. You will need 26 feathers. Thirteen feathers are long and thirteen feathers are short. Cut out extra feathers if you want to include extra letters of the alphabet for spelling activities.
3. Put the pieces of your turkey together. If you want, you can sew or glue them to the body. Otherwise, leave the turkey pieces as they are and allow your child to put it together as part of the activity. Attach the googly eyes.
4. Use the adhesive foam letters to decorate the tail feathers.
5. Your felt turkey is ready for alphabet activities. Put the tail feathers in alphabetical order or spell Thanksgiving words like "Thanks," "Thursday" and "Turkey." See the photo album for examples.
6. If you need a felt or flannel board for mounting your turkey, see Make a cheap and easy felt or flannel board.

That is adorable!
Love it!
Thank you both! :)
What a fun way to practice letters on Thanksgiving day. I bet grandma would love to play along and see how bright her grandchild is.
