Halloween Barbie Dolls

Most people have seen Halloween Barbie dolls peering down at them from the shelves of grocery stores and Target. The first modern Barbie Halloween set was the Barbie & Kelly Halloween gift set Target put out in 1997, but did you know the first time Barbie donned a Halloween costume was in 1963?

1963 - 1964 Barbie Masquerade, Ken Masquerade, Skipper Masquerade

Barbie Masquerade was a cute yellow and black ensemble complete with accessories including a pointy hat, a black mask, black pantyhose, black open-toe mules with yellow pompons, and a party invitation. Ken had a similar outfit and in 1964, Skipper got her own smaller version called Skipper Masquerade. (See slideshowbelow.)

Modern Barbie Halloween Dolls

Since 1997 Mattel has issued at least one Halloween Barbie each year, and most years, there are two Halloween Barbies, one sold in grocery stores and one exclusive to Target. This is a list of some of the Halloween Barbie dolls Mattel has issued to show that variety of dolls in the Halloween line. The Halloween Barbie dolls list is not scientific as I usually used the year the doll was sold in stores, but occasionally I used the date on the box. The box date may be the year before the doll actually appeared in stores.

Kelly and Friends Halloween Sets

Kelly and friends sets appeared on shelves in 1998, usually four dolls to a set, sold separately, each in a different costume. I have not tried to list all of these as such a large variety of Kelly and friends dolls have been issued, but they are always quite adorable as aliens, pumpkins, kitties, detectives, cowboys, scarecrows and an assortment of other creative costumes. In 2009 the Kelly Halloween dolls are "Merry Monsters."

Your list of the grocery store/Target Barbie dolls was very helpful. Are you going to make a list of the Christmas ones. Just grocery store/Sams/Target, etc., not Happy Holiday ones.

    Thanks,
    Marty

Hi. I LOVE your list of Halloween and Christmas Barbie dolls. I have videos and put them up on Youtub, just type in "sam's barbie dolls". Right now I'm working on puting up a viedo for Valentine Barbies. Thank so much, SAM
