Do you ever wonder why dogs sniff each other’s butts? Whether the dogs are new acquaintances or old ones, they meet up and immediately run to the rear. Most people believe this is their way of saying “hello.“ However, this belief is a myth. Dogs sniff each other’s butts for a much deeper reason.
Dogs have two anal glands in their rectums, which emit a strong scent. Dogs sniff each other’s butts in order to get a whiff of it. The aroma they smell gives them detailed information about the other dog.
The aroma emitted from a dog’s butt tells other dogs vital information about him. It tells his sex, health status and temperament. Therefore, on a first meeting, two unacquainted dogs know if they want to befriend each other or not. So what does that mean to us? We need to trust our dog’s instincts.
If he doesn’t like another dog, there is probably a good reason. The other dog doesn't pass the sniff test. So let nature take its course. Allow your dog choose his own friends because in the long run he nose best.

dogs smell other buts years and years ago they had a drinking and a poker game they peed on ther self they hung there butts out on a line to dry there was a raid they all took off just grabing what butt they could thats why they smell the other but to see if is theres

I hate it when I go to the dog park and I hear owners say to there dogs " stop sniffing there butt". I mean are these people really that dumb? some advice, if you have a dog educate yourself first with the basic characteristics of animal behavior! umm is is the most normal and healthy thing for a dog to do...........
My puppy won't stop sniffing our cat's butt, drives the cat crazy, will she ever stop, seems like she does it too much? Maybe the cat butt smell is too confusing?
when i was little my sister used to tell me the story of why dogs smell each others butt, and it went like this...a long,long time ago dogs could speak as well as humans since they were our best friends...then one day one dog overheard the devil planning to do evil unto man so the head dog decided to tell god about it,but the devil found out about the plan and took dogs ability to talk...now we know the devil got his way because of all the evil in the world but thats another story...now all dogs were speechless so the head dog wrote a letter to god explaining what the devil had done to them and gave it to his most trusted dog to deliver it...with instructions to not let it fall in the devils hands...when the devil tried to take it away,he ate it...so since then dogs are trying to retrieve the letter to give to god and get their speech back, they just dont know which dog has it so they smell each others butt looking for it....

see dogs sniff each other butts to just do it its a habbet for what tey do when they met a new dog they sniiif there BUTT 2 see about them what about them......i know a girl who is my bff and her name is bacon and i know somthing I LIKE 2 SNIFFF MY BUTT

Well, I'd argue this is still a "greeting" if not necessarily saying hello. When people meet for the first time, we too size each other up (minus the butt sniffing hopefully).

Actually, us humans have the same habit, mainly guys. If any ladies are reading this, ask your man or any man how many times or if he's ever sniffed some undergarments of yours or someone elses. Maybe tha'ts why they say........."all men are ...."
That is very odd...most NORMAL people won't sniff undergarments.
My neighbor wont stop sniffing my butt. Now I know why!
Sometimes my friend sprays perfume on her buttox in order for ppl to stay being her friend.
